My daughter rides a 95 Yamaha Vmax 600, and I was inquiring to see if there is a skid that I can use to replace the existing skid to provide better suspension.

I personally have never done a skid swap but the Polaris Xtra10 and ski-doo sc3 seem to be very popular swaps.

On my wifes 95 600 I installed a Comet ride on shock years ago which helped a lot but still not as good of a ride as my XT.
Comet got out of the shock biz about 10 years ago.

The 96 XT rear skid is an easy swap. Yamaha used to sell them as a kit as an upgrade.
The Skidoo sc3 would likely be cheaper and easier to find.
 
Never did the the Sc3 or M10 skids but a lot of guys on here have done them.

We swapped my dad's 94 to the XT skid the first summer after he rode it :) works well but my understanding is not as good as an M10 or similar.

If i recall he was able to get the XT skid for $150 so not a bad deal and we had my sled for measurements.
 
If I were to put on a set of drop brackets, I have been told to also lower the center axle 1/2 the distance. Where is the center axle.

Drop brackets will make that sled ride horrible (know from experience) unless you updated the front pogos to xt struts and drop the front skid mount the same distance as the rear.
 
I will look for an xtra10 skid. Does anyone have template for mounting this skid.

If your daughter is light, it might be that resetting the suspension for her weight would help a lot - if you have not done that.
 
I just put asn sc3 in my 94 vmax, very easy installed, the front bolt stayed in the original spot, top idle had to move a bit, but very easy. And the rear most, I reinstalled the original 3 bolt plates on and mounted the furthest back bolt into the front most hole. Then just drill out the other bolt holes, install bolts and your done. Took me maybe a hour or two, that includes measuring off of the doner sled. I also had to add some spacers on the inside of the tunnel as the sc3 is not as wide as the original skid.
The ride of this new skid is night and day!!!! The old girl will lift the ski's for 500 feet if you loosen the rear shock for max transfer. Soaked up all the bumps with ease. This is by far the best upgrade to do on the old vmax.
 
Yes my daughter is light 90 lbs. how to I setup the suspension for her weight. The snowmobile is all over the trail. Rear fish tails.
 
That doesn't sound normal. Is it like that with you on it? Look for something like bent rails, broken or loose parts. There was a suspension tuning manual and also a video. Might find them with some searching on line. Possibly on You Tube.
