Destroyed cog bearing

My buddy just picked this 99 ac ZL600 up and he was having me check it out before the season so I noticed the speedo didn't work and on those sleds that's a good sighn of bearing failure as the speedo key breaks when there is play in the clutch side bearing so I opend the speedo drive cover to find this !!

Surprisingly it was fine and I was able to replace the bearing with no issues

Typical Arctic Cat problem. I never understand how guys dont notice a bearing failure until it grenades. It will howl well before it gets that bad and your right, if the speedo isnt working, its almost always a bearing going.

One should learn to employ anti-rust measures to avoid such.

why i pull the seal or bearing and repack my main trails sleds every year and all the others every 2nd year. only had one fail since i started doing this but it had 11000 mi on it at time of failure.
