oil usage

I have a 2002 vmax700er snowmobile. The manual says there should be ~7/8 free play on the oil pump cable adjuster. There is only about a half inch of threads on the cable adjuster, so how are you supposed to get the required 7/8 inch measurement. Help would be greatly appreciated. Four litres of injector oil in 140 miles.

I haven’t wrenched on one of these in a few years but I seem to remember that you pull the cable apart and measure the gap and adjust the gap to the spec you want.
