Slight delay here. A hailstorm nailed my house with 2-2.5" hail and destroyed my roof and the Northeast side of my house siding. Luckily I've been working with my insurance company and they covered it completely except for the deductible. I secured a contractor and should have a new roof on in about 3 weeks. I still have to figure out what to do on the siding, vinyl, aluminum, or steel. If the contractor can match the current siding, I'll just go that route but it's 17 years old so.......
Anyway, when the storm warning came on the radio I had to pack up the sled project and slide it to the back of the garage to get my 1 year old car inside. My son and I scrambled and literally 30seconds after I got the car in the garage, the hail came down. Weird cracking sound almost electrical. My truck only got one dent up on the top of the roof, the snowmobile trailer has no dents. The hail was very spotty with big groupings all over the yard and back acre. I can now believe you can be killed if caught in a storm like that.
So I have the sled back in the car slot and ready to start putting the reverse gear set in the chaincase along with the new cover. So sorry not to check in, but my roof & siding project has buried me for a while. Now back to the sled, hope to make some progress this weekend.
Thanks for the feedback on the gear oil, I was pretty sure that's OK just wanted to be sure.

OK, buttoned up the reverse gear chaincase. (funny to me story, I was turning the secondary clutch but could not see the track so I had my son turn the track with the back end on a stand. I shifted forward and reverse and the only problem was that when I went to forward the track went in reverse, and vice versa. So after some head scratching and wondering how that was even possible I realized my son was turning the secondary clutch opposite the engine direction. Whew, heart back in my chest) So anyway after that we put the battery in and hooked up the starter solenoid and battery cables. We fired the sled up and the electric start works great. Then we tried the forward reverse gear shift and it worked great.
The only problem we have now is that we noticed the forward battery heat shield is missing from the used reverse kit we got. Does anyone have a battery holder with the heat shield they want to sell? The heat shield is the shield between the muffler and battery holder. We have to tie wrap the battery to starter cable to the radiator hose and cut the cowl opening for the shift lever. Then we need to get a heat shield on the battery holder and it's a done deal. Even the newly installed reverse beeper worked, although I had to reverse the two wires to get it to work.

I would think you could make one and rivet it on easy enough. They are not special, just aluminum. Nice job on the mods, you will love them!

All done. The diagram I was looking at had a heat shield for 97-98 and the 01 does not have the particular heat shield I thought I needed. There is a heat shield inside the battery box on mine and plenty of clearance. Secured the muffler today, aligned and tie wrapped the cables for clearance and securing, cut the shroud opening for the shift lever, and all done. Only fun I had was when I went to re-route the e-brake cable I dropped the end cable pin down in the deep dark crevice that is the engine compartment. After a few comments I had to pull the muffler again and fished it out with a magna-triever.
I fired it up again on the stand and everything is working good. I am really impressed with how easy if fires up with the electric start (of course it's summer though, but even much easier than I recall starting in summer with the pull start). This should be a perfect sled now for my 13 yr old son and he has gained some knowledge along with dad on what goes on behind the aluminum housings.
Now I have to do the do a fuse box re-locate (with a mod kit) on my 2015 Viper and we're ready to go. Finally a little ahead of the curve for this winter. I hope everyone else is doing well and getting ready for a great year of sledding!
Thanks for all the helpful advice!
