adding glowshift egt's to my sx700r

I'm adding glowshift egt's to my sled this summer. Just wondering where to get 12v DC power from to power them as they are digital. There was a spot for a heated shield near the location of where I'm mounting the gauge pod. In help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! LET IT SNOW!!!

when I put led's on my sled I went directly into the headlight wire for the lights under the hood and went to the taillight for the ones under the foot rails. just find the constant hot when the machine is on. if I remember right I want to say blue wire

not saying this is what happened or is just a fluke but I had to replace a stator. not sure if the extra lights did it or not just something to keep in mind, they look cool but I took mine off maybe someone with electric experience good chime in with a better response

Do a search for DC power. There are a couple good DC power sources. Reverse buzzer wire comes to mind and brow wire from harness if I remember right.

Thanks, I do not he reverse on my sled though. I will do some more research about it.
 
Any one know if this will draw too much power off one circuit? I will have a gauge in my hands in the next 2 weeks to test what it draws

The draw from the gauges should be minimal and the install sheet should give you specs? You dont have to worry about too much draw on one circuit as its all basically one circuit and the power is comming from the stator. The only issue that will show up is if it is too much draw you will short out stator but i doubt those guages will do that. I think the 01 still had the old low watt ignition system in them? Didnt go to the 300 watt system till the dual head lights, is yours one or two headlights?. For example of overdraw I tried HIDs on a 98 with the old system and the draw from battery from the hid was too much for stator to handle. Overheated stator and shut sled down. At least just by sitting and letting stator cool sled was good to go, no futher issues with OEM bulb.

Thanks for the info! I have the dual head light system. I believe that yamaha changed it after 2000. I'm pretty confident they won't draw too much. The gauges are led. I'm ordering one and having my dad test it's draw since he's an electrical engineer. He just doest have an interest in snowmobiles or power sports in general
 
OK just giving an update on my project. I talked to glowshifts tech support today, and they said each gauge draws less than 1 amp each. I'm pretty confident I'm in the safe zone for running all 3 gauges off the beeper wires. Just wondering which wire is POS and which is neg? I'm guessing without testing that brown is pos and pink is neg. Again thanks for everyone's help and as soon as I'm done with it there will be pictures on here.
 
Awesome! Can't wait to get them and install them. I have one in my hands already waiting on the other 2 and the triple pod
 
This is an update to my project. Checked for power with a test light today and the 2 wires I found by the right foot well had no power to them. I found 2 wires under the dash that have power I checked one of the gauges by connecting the wires temporarily. The gauge lit up so I'm going to double check with a volt meter to make sure there is 12v DC coming from it. I pit the project on hold until after Hay Days cause you can't go there without a wad of cash lol. I will have pics through out the project and final pics when I return from Hay Days.
