Ok, other night, i was rippin around on the ole' srx. Stopped at the dealer (cat dealer, that is) BSed with em for a while, then moved on. So yesterday when i stop in, he claims no longer than a minute later, lead DNR Game warden pulls up, says he has me on his 'hornograph' at over 2 miles away. He asks dealer who it was, dealer, obviously wont tell em, so he says ok then, you tell him when I catch him, its gonna be a 1000 dollar fine or im going to impound his sled.

Apparently, anything over 88 dB is against the law in city limits, and even outside the city limits, but its only $100 there.

What the hell..... I have a DG can on the srx and stock pipes.. it isnt THAT loud, and if people have a problem with it whatever. All i know, is that if get caught, im screwed. ARe the STOCK srx silencers over 88dB? Thanks!

haha, ya them dnr guys are pesky. was over gettin gas and he wanted to pull me over to check regi. but didn't get the new one (still on 04, 05 hasn't come) and instead i take off (now, i'm on a viper so no biggy, right? RIGHT!!!) i loose the s.o.b in 2 mins, whip through some trees, hit back on some old tracks, pass a few buds to get him real confused, and head for home the back way. well, next day he talks at work i'm guessin and i guess he describes me and my sled and where i was, well his buddy who pulled me over last year recognized me and gave him my address. pulled in from work, had a little green guy waitin for me!!!!

sounds like the DNR has a horograph up his a$$, no way he can tell how loud a sled is 2 miles away.

the DG cans are a little on the noisy side, but plenty of sled loeder than a canned SRX.

maybe you need to have it repacked

Put the stock can back on before another trail is closed. What is the attraction of making a snowmobile so loud it offends people? You need not look any further than the proposed legislation in the state of Connecticut to see what the eventual punishment will be, an outright ban on the sale of ORV. That won't impress the local Cat dealer.

I dont have a stock can, it came with the DG can, and I dont ride trails, i ride on the river. Only time i go into town is to go to the dealer..

I don't consider an aftermarket can "loud". It's nothing like the stinger pipes on triples in the early to mid 90's. I will not part with my bender QST. Ticket me all you want, its quieter than many stock artic craps out there. When they start enforcing Harleys, they can enforce me (try that in Wisconsin). You may think that's terrible, but enuffs enuff and I'll fight back, or run.

Well out, I'm in the same boat. When they catch me, they can give me a ticket. I've been to jail befor, it's not that bad:)

Oh ya, are hauck growlers a lot louder?

amen to that, I don't mind a loud machine anymore than the next guy, but if you wanna make a rule against loud exhaust you gotta be equal about it and those harleys are making WAY more noise than any sled.

Yes, I have a 99' Fat Boy with gutted Screaming Eagles and I set off car alarms regularly. I would rather them make me quiet that down than my sled, my SRX is more fun! And it's not even in the ballpark of a Harley in terms of "noise pollution". I say don't pick and choose. Imagine if over 1 million bikes in Wisconsin all had to buy stock exhaust all at once. UPROAR, it would never work. But if I get one ticket on my sled I'm gonna start S.H.U.H. (shut the hell up harley). There are laws now, but they're not enforced. Maybe 100 snowmobilers at the capitol in Madison with anti Harley signs would get them to back off to a sensible level. If your Harley had to sound like a Honda sales would fall unbelievably fast, and the state doesn't want that now do they. Oh, by the way, Hauck Growlers are the louder stinger style cans, those are the naughty ones. ;)!

when my fatboy makes car alarms go off it makes me laugh.

My buddy has a SRX with hauck silencer and that thing is obnoxious. Have to plug my ears when we pull up to get gas. Even my fatboy is not like that.

obnoxious but not a deep enough rumble like the Vance and Hines big shots on the fat boy.

Yes, I am all for quieting those type of sleds down. There is a difference between obnoxious and nicely piped. I too laugh at alarms, especially when the owner is nearby and gives me that "Oh, I look stupid in front of my friends" look. "Where is my key fob at?"

gotta say that neither of them really bother me, but I've heard alot of harleys with exhaust as loud as some of the open mod 1000's I've stood next to, and that's just plain unnecessary since those open mods aren't running silencing of any kind and are full out race motors.

either way, stingers I don't have a big big issue with

You guys are comparing apples with oranges. A Harley puts out a much lower more pentrating exhaust note, while most snowmobiles have the more high-pitched less pentrating note. Your buddies SRX hurts your ears cuz it's high-pitched (high frequecy, generally why you can't typically hear a sled from far away) while the Harley's, with the much lower frequency, you can here as fas a 3-4 miles away, depending. Which makes this issue more of a sham and continues the hipocracy in America. You can drive down a subdivision street at 2am on a Harley creating Holy Hell, but you can't be out in the wilderness making noise. 200 million plus vehicles in the U.S. and the enviornmentalists are going to make the air cleaner with the elimination of the whopping few hundred thousand snowmobiles, THAT ONLY RUN FOR A FEW MONTHS A YEAR!!!! It's alright that they produce and we buy vehicles that only get 10-15 miles per gallon, in 2005!, but those snowmobiles better be compliant or else. Our priorities are so screwed up, that it makes my head spin. Sorry for the tangent, but I feel better now.

I think that its also true that my beater lawn boy running with klotz oil puts out more polution mowing my half acre than my sled does rideing all day. Sure smells good though..............LOL
