pull exhaust off, remove 14mm bolts holding recoil on, remove flywheel nut (Cant remember but i think it might be left hand thread), remove flywheel with a puller. From here your stator should be exposed. Remember to use the exact right size phillips head bit and ratchet cause the mounting screws are real tight. Clean any rust off flywheel before re installing.
Make sure to lock tight screws as well. Its a couple hours if you take your time.

i watched a video of a stator replacement on youtube but it was for an arctic cat but i figured the process would be very similar. the stator should come in the mail today and the clutch puller comes saturday. i got the puller off of amazon from 636 distribution. it is a universal clutch puller so i hope it works. i will post back up here and let you know how it goes.

You need a flywheel puller, not a clutch puller. The screws holding the stator on can be a pain to loosen up, I use and impact driver to loosen them.

U can get one cheap at a Harbor Freight!

This is what you need. Also called steering wheel puller or harmonic balancer puller. Should be able to get one at an auto parts store too. http://www.harborfreight.com/automotive-motorcycle/pullers/bolt-type-wheel-puller-set-69889.html
