I have a 1997 Yamaha vmax sx 600 twin that act's like it's hitting a rev limiter at 5500 rpms its all stock except for the can that was on it when I got. It ran fine until now. Thanks for any info.

You mean at WOT it wont shift out ... 5500 rpm max? I would start to check clutch parts, warn center bushings, rollers or weights.
The tors is disconnected and the primary was just completely rebuilt and carbs have been cleaned. I think I'll tear into the secondary tonight. A guy down the road had the same sled foe years and said that maybe there's to much air flow through the can he had the same problem
you do realize that sled is equipped with a throttle position sensor? could be something is messed up with that switch, its out of adjustment, or its unplugged. the wiring does feed directly into the cdi box and can create the problem your having. are you getting the self diagnosis flash from the dash on startup? is it throwing any codes?
