Cleaned the carbs this year. Checked the floats for adjustment (none required). All jets stock (not at any crazy elevation). Checked the oil pump cable and it's at spec, but she's still smoking pretty good. Has been since I got her last year. Cylinders are all at 125. Pulled the plugs and they're oily. (but I just installed them, so they're new) Just wondering if the cable spacing is an accurate measurement for oil mixing? Are there times when you need to adjust based on other factors? If so, what's the method? I'm used to dirt bikes where you do it based on jetting.

For the oil you can adjust it to use about a quart to a ten gallons safely. Maybe a little leaner than that. Go slow on the adjustment. Need to ride it to find out where
you are at.

Should the gap of the cable go larger for more lean or smaller? I have it at 23mm right now. Can't find that written anywhere as the manual merely tells you where to set it and not that it can be adjusted to for proper mix.

Not really sure. I bought it late last season and rode it a few days. Didn't really do any fuel/oil consumption measurements. All I know is it smokes a lot and the plugs are oily.
 
They say when the oil pump goes bad it goes wide open. Might want to ride it more so you can get an idea of how much oil it is using to a tank of gas. Not sure if there is a way to test the oil pump. Plugs being wet could be from warm temps and running on a stand.

Alright. I may set it to the top end of the recommended gap (24mm) and quit mucking with it until I ride it for awhile. I bought my wife a 4 stroke Vector, so she'll be sucking my fumes this year. Just trying to minimize the complaints.
 
make sure you got the oil cable sleeves back in the correct spot where the measurement is taken. If they arent seated correctly then they will cause the cable to pull the pump more than it should

That's an interesting observation and one I pondered as I pulled them back in place. Guess I'd need to see a pic of where they should be seated.
