With a few guys asking from here and facebook I said I would post some pics of the sled and the rebuild of it after I destroyed it last year racing after a derailing of the track which ended up ruining the skid track and drivers

little back story on the sled it started life as #12 off the line 92 Phazer II it was then tore down and preceded to be built into a racer and changed up it was widened and then had vmax 4 front end components and skis mounted and then was fitted with a venture hood and nose and motor was built and ran a RPC pipe ...it was raced in the area for years and then a very good friends uncle bought it and raced it a few years ...it was then put back to a stock motor and my good friend trail rode it for a few years before selling it at his uncle dealership and buying a indy trail to replace it this was in like 99 or so ....fast forward we are sitting in the shop after a weekend of racing and the "mutt" came up and I said ya know if I ever find that thing again I am going to try and buy it ....fast forward again and I found it and it fell in my lap (2005)as it came into the shop needing a ton of work as it was not kept up over the years made a deal with the owner to get the sled and then preceded to get it back up and going again over the years it has had a few different race motors of my design and a few different pipes but I have now settled on the set up I have with another top end design in the works to get some more out of it

give me some time as I find all the pics but this is how I found it

then as I had time I fixed the hood

Very nice sled. I can tell there's a lot of work in there. What kind of motor are u running in there?

the sled ran with this paint job for a few years until I found a new hood for it from Bob V on this site at our local swap meet .... after I took the sled back from one of my drivers ( I had another one I was running) it got another face lift and a fresh motor and some flat slide carbs and a hydro brake setup

I really do not have any pics of the upgrades but the last bit was this before I went to full ice set up with the sled

some more pics for today ... prepping the sled for ice, after years of running older machines the stock seat and tank setup was never one of my favorites so I decided to finish off a seat I carved up for it and put a smaller tank on it of a 76 snow twister motor came apart for what I thought would be just a set of rings but ended up in a full rebuild of the top end and new set of seals fresh set of reed pedals and I had to switch to 38mm rounds from my flats as per rules requirement 100_0768.jpg100_0753.jpg100_0758.jpg100_0759.jpg100_0760.jpg100_0761.jpg100_0762.jpg100_0763.jpg

sled also got a bender sway bar kit that I got from Throttle Junkie ...I had to rework it a bit to get it to function right...sled was also fitted with 93 ex sx strut cans and a new set of lowering cups to give me some spring pressure adjustments

Hey nutz, I see in the pics that when you had the flats on it - looks like a rpc stealth pipe on the sled then. When you ran it at Eagle River last year you had the 38 rounds on it correct? Did you still run the aftermarket pipe or did you have to run a stock pipe at Eagle River?

I see you have the bottle on. How does that work for for better response ? Can I run one in a 90 Srv 540 40mm roundslide? Better sir flow or better throttle response . Thanks for any info .

Ski man ...nope had to run the 38mm rounds and the stock pipe and loose all my hp it was a super stock class. I got to run the sled at Eagle River that is all I wanted ...so now I am done with that place on to better tracks with better people

Srv650 ..anything you see here on this sled and motor wise will not aid the set-up that Throttle junkie and I helped you with on your srv ...this is a Full built race Phazer motor at .020'' over bore runs on 110 fuel well it just a blast to ride

Well, like with anything I do, I over do it ......

after not finding a rail for a bit and with the season ending I decided to not rush to get it back on the track and I preceded to completely take the sled apart and go through and rebuild it as 18 years has been ruff on this only girl ...so I spit the tunnel and bulkhead, check over and did a bunch of welding of extra hole grinding cracks and welding them back up to make it solid again ...then the steering gate, bumper, and bulkhead go a fresh black powder coat .....in the mean time as that was out getting done yep I stripped the paint off the tunnel and got the rear skid rebuilt ....nothing like changing the appearance of a sled you have known for years .....

well here are some more..... bulkhead, steering gate, and bumper powder coated. tunnel striped and polished now time to put is back together bulkhead got new bushings and seals for the front struts along with a new set of struts a different belly pan that was not shredded from parking the nose into the *** end of another sled coming into a corner years ago all new rod ends and column bushings and yes all new hardware and I had to polish the sway bar tube

625.jpg627.jpg628.jpg629.jpg630.jpg

then time to rebuild the skid ....with a tip from a member on here about oven cleaner I stripped the anodizing off a gold rail and went through the whole skid again

Dang Mike,,, You just keep outdoing yourself every time you start tossing wrenches at a sled!!! You should be doing this schnitt for a living!!

opsled

PS, Steve and I were talking on the way home from that little get together you and your buddies had going a couple months back about your sleds and others including the Mutt. He said it was his favorite sled of all the ones you have just because it was different and cool. He actually said at the time that you should redo it like you've done so many others.. He's gonna want to see this build.

Weird??

hey nutz, that is nice.............. Where will you be running it this season? I like phazers big time, and they can be picked up easily for cheap, unlike the 70's race sleds. I see you made a seat like an srx, have you tried slapping a 76 sno-twister seat on with the s/t fuel tank? I popped the nice seat off my liquid twister and set it on my phazer, it raised the racy sex appeal to 11.

Well here it is all finished up waiting for racing if it gets out this year .................

Ski-man I ran the sled at ER last year in superstock Open and I sponsored the class so that I could run it I was happy with it I finished 6th in the final probably could have done better if the driver had the balls to stick the nose into tight places but it was not worth wrecking the sled and I have to work on Monday .....I was working with a few guys in PVR to get the ORA class to run combo with the F-500's but thanks to the IDIOTs in ORA changing the pipe rule to any stock single pipe for the brand that it took a level playing field and gave the advantage to the Polaris idiots .....the class was set-up as a cheap fun class with simple rules and since the designer of the class is no longer a board member the rest of the group is destroying the class .....so I think it will be set back up for snow ovals this year ....just a track change

Phil like always thanks for the compliments ....I know you have been around and seen pretty much all of my builds come to life from some stupid thought that I get and run with, I have learned much from your guys too, and some of the imput you give on this and that .... just like the next build I am sure you will have some ideas

thanks for the write up on this.... I am planning a phazer build (completely different) but, really enjoyed your build "very nice"

Wow that's racing . Hate to see what the bills are to build that rocket. But I am sure you do it for the sport of it and a little pride
