Having idle problem. Carbs cleaned and sync'd, valves cleaned, good spark. Compression good all cyls. When off of choke won't idle on all cyls. Primary appears to be #1. Won't run on 2 or 3 individually, runs on #1 ok. If choke is on part or full runs ok. increasing idle close to clutch engagement runs ok with choke off. Looking for suggestions idle all 3 cyls. Thanks for looking.

I know you dont want to hear it but clean the carbs again, running with choke on is a dead giveaway for dirty pilot jets. Has happened to me more then once in the past, it happens. Other thought is check your plug caps but you said good spark which leaves ya back at dirty pilot jets.

I agree on your carb conclusion. All jets,& all orifices were cleaned. Sled was this way as received, then the work done since then. Have not had a chance to run other than at idle. You are correct, didn't want to here remove carbs again, but if that's what it takes

Take a bread wrapper twist tie and strip off the covering. Good for sticking through pilot jets.

another thing to look at if this is an inherited problem is the fact that someone before you didnt mess something up. although your description screams pilot jets, there is always the chance that the fuel screws need some attention.
it could be that the o rings are missing or the washer, spring, oring configuration is messed up. just an option to look at when your going through those carbs again.

Make sure there's no rust on the flywheel. And is a wire brush wire to clean the pilots out. Check the fuel screws and give it another try.

Believe it was in the "broken throttle cable" mode. Slow idle adjustment was set so high that it tricked the electronic sensor to think the cable was broken due to excess slack when lever was released. Anyway that or gremlins fixed. No problem now. Thanks for suggestions.

Had a lot of fun in engineering with all of my Deere's. None were stock. Gave up when Polaris bought out the sled division. The '85 proto types, similar to my avatar, should have been industry leaders. The peaky '80-'84 440 engine (no '79 due to the engine manufacturer dropping out.) was gone.

Fun sled, Mine became a modified 440. Carlson won several races with the stock 340.
