Srx tank screws

Iv swapped an 02 viper seat onto my 2000 srx and this leaves the two screws at the top rear of the tank exposed. These are not just removable they seemed to be glued in place. Has anyone else done this swap and have had suscess removing them?. And how did u do it?
 
I haven't tried taking the screws out but if they don't come out I would cut them off if your not going to put the stock seat back on. Or just get a viper gas tank. I have one I will sell for 40$ shipped in the lower 48.

I may or may not put the original seat on so i dont want to ruin the option. Im afraid to force them out or cut them . Anyone actually tried this ?
 
They should simply come out. Can't say for sure that there would be any loctite on them though.... If you have a soldering gun (electric) you could CAREFULLY heat the screws to assist in removal.
 
I simply cant justify buying another tank just for these screws, With that said its enough of an eye sore that I need to do something. They wont come out with a screwdriver, and with a pair of vise grips there is enough force needed, Im afraid of breaking them and be forced back to the beginning and have to buy another tank because of my ocd...lol
Heat may be the trick I just dont know how far in they go. Is the hole blind? Or do they go all the way through into the tank.....requiring a plastic weld to repair the holes??? Allot of questions I know but I just dont want to screw up my tank....

Yup that may be my only other option. Problem with the whole srx tank to experiment on is where i am. Im in northwestern ontario 22 hours north of Toronto. Shipping would be a disaster just to experiment. With that said i do aporeatiate very much those that have offered free srx tanks.
 
hi I was using my dads account (mtndreamer) to help you out. I tested this and my screws came out. yours might of had Loctite on them or the are rusted on the threads just try a big screw driver on them and while your turning tap lightly on the end of the screw driver with a hammer. or try heating it up just not with a flame and don't get it to hot. its an insert and no it doesn't go into tank. Hope this helps
 
Well it didnt. I put pressure on them after heating them a soldering gun and the thread inserts that the screws thread into , let go as one piece and now both screws and insert turn. Now what?
 
Same thing happens to the shroud screws on the side of tank all the time also. What I did now that your insert is loose was put my screw gun to it and spin that screw and insert long enough to heat up the plastic so I could just pull screw and insert out. Then I removed screw from insert with vice and brute force. Then you can epoxy insert back into tank. Will just have to replace screw if needed from hardware. I now use antiseize on all those inserts now.
 
Sorry that it didn't work I had the same problem on my carb rack the screws that holds the carbs together wouldn't come out
 
Well it worked. I spun the screws until they got hot enough thatvthey could be pulled out. I filled the open holes with a 2 part plastic epoxy and put a 3m wide piece of one side sticky foam tape over top. Looks way better.
