Stator replacement

Unplug it and it bypasses it. Just tried it on viper and 96 vmax and both ran with it unplugged.

Have you checked your coils.

I was just thinking that. I replaced my stator because chippewa motorsports in Sault st Marie told me I had a bad stator, but when I pulled it out it looked fine! But coils is my next thing! I even told my dad that we should check the coils and he said that it is not possibly the coils! But the coils are 18 yrs old! So I will check the coils next!

I am not sure what they thought! They took it in back and said they hooked it up and tested it! But I rode from trout lake to ignace went to lunch came back out and it would start, changed plugs, unplugged the tss! It wouldn't start at all! So I took it to them the next day and they said stator was bad! But the service wasn't good at all! So I shoukd have somebody else check it too!

What was the reason you took it to them? Did it run and then not run and then run again or was it acting up and then just quit. And has it ran since. Just trying to get as much info as possible. Try unhooking the key switch like Yamahamark said. Maybe check the harness and make sure there is no rub through anywhere. Especially check under motor.

It should run with the key switch unplugged. My srx didn't run with the switch unplugged but I had to get the switch from a 01 when I did the electronics. A 96 vmax did run with it unplugged and it has the same switch my 99 had before I changed electronics.

It ran perfectly fine when we got there, rode thirty miles to lunch shut it off about 4 times on the way because we stopped and talked on the trail. Stopped at a bar in St ignace and shut it off, came out about an hour later and it wouldn't start it! It was just dead! I changed the plugs, unplugged the tss nothing worked! But when we brought it back home after getting it tested at chippewa motors they said I had a bad stator so I put it in the barn and tried to start it and it started, and that was in march! And havent been able to get it started since!

Sounds like it could be possible the key switch is messed up. I would try unplugging and see if you get spark. If it does end up being the key switch let me know and I will hook you up with the one I have here.

I will, thanks! Do the key switches go bad often?!

I don't think so but who knows. A lot of times they get turned on and don't get turned off very often since most people use the kill switch so maybe depending on moisture and stuff when they are stored it could have messed it up in there. Usually when the main electronic stuff stops working it doesn't work again. That's what makes me think key switch or rub through or maybe a corroded connection somewhere. Might want to unplug connectors and plug them back in (like the cdi) if the other stuff doesn't work. Just throwing ideas out. It almost has to be something simple.

It really sounds to me like a bad wire somewhere, I would check over all the wires that have to do with the ignition, including the grounds.

My buddies an electrician, so I think I am gonna have him test every conection, all the coils, and every ground! And hopefully he finds something!

whats the story on this sled? did it jut up and lose spark? usually when stators go you have weak spark/ hot running problems. sounds like a rub through to be honest, have you looked at the harness under the motor? its infamous for rubbing through with age . start with the small things, look at the harness, take a multi meter and do resistance/ continuity tests on the components, switches and plugs. you can eliminate the key switch by unplugging it on the 180w single bulb systems.
