I've had my 98 for about 3 years now, needless to say still haven't rode it yet, it was a basket case front to back, anyways I'm basically down to finishing rebuilding the skid and getting the primary clutch set up correctly. I took apart clutch and cleaned well, rollers in good shape as are the weights. It has a blue blue blue spring in it. As of right now it won't even begin to engage until 7600 rpm or a bit higher which is obviously not correct. The movable sheave bushing is in pretty rough shape and I believe this is causing the excessive engagement rpm. Could a bushing with excessive clearance cause clutch engagement issues? I belive the weights are 8ch, which from what I've been reading is for the 97 sleds. I'm looking to set the primary up for use with an 8ch which I believe is now an 89l drive belt. Are the 8ch weights the correct ones for this? Also if someone could give a color code for a stock spring that would be great also. I believe this clutch may be trash, so probably going the route of buying a used one and putting together one nice piece from the 2 as my rollers and weights are in good shape. I'm unsure of rivets that are in weights and didn't know if there was a good way to tell what was in them or not, or if I could just put the whole weight on a scale and measure that way. Thank you for all your help, I've been reading on this for a few days now and have learned a significant amount from everyone on here. Just had a few small questions that I can't seem to find a definite 100 percent answer for. Sled is stock minus a can and reed spacers. I am putting a 1"track on with no picks in it (just installed new front heat exchanger, what a pain! ) help please!
