Im running hauck pipes now on my 2000 sxr 700.

Jetting is

stock 45 pilots
148.8 mains
fuel screw out 2 turns
needle set to 4th position

It was -20 deg cel out today and these plugs only have 13 mile on them. pretty much new
it runs great and lots of power but dont want to push it. Also s small idle hang that ive always had

clutch - centre - recoil

not the best pic i know

When I ran my haucks I ran 150 mains gets alot cooler than what it was would be lean Id think

I'll get a better picture once I'm home. But they do look a little lean to me. More grayish than brown. That are new plugs

heres a better pic

this is what i was at when it was -12 and just putting around the yard. not much full throttle and only 2 miles on them

Reading your plugs after putting around isnt going to do much for you at all. If you want to know how it is jetted at wot, you got to run it at wot and IMMEDIATELY kill the engine. Same goes for mid range or any range. Plugs don't have memory...whatever you were running at before it was shut down, is what the plugs are going to show.

ive got just the place to do this. Sounds like Monday is test day.

Sorry but plugs do have a memory. To properly read a plug (for jetting) you need to read at the bottom of the porcelain not the electrode etc. You need to put a new set of plugs in each run. The ring that forms at the bottom of the porcelain only shows up once. This is why it is best to read the piston. The piston will show jetting, detonation etc a lot sooner and are easier to read than a plug.......SRXtreme

IMMEDIATELY kill the engine. means that you kill it at speed, do not coast to a stop then kill it.

For sure! ive got a decent spot to do this as far as i can tell.

So by doing a plug cut i should get a good idea how its running? And pulling the heads is the best option to check how its running. how many miles will it take for the piston to show how its currently set up? ive got 13 miles on it with the pipes and the other 8000 miles were all factory.

You need to do the same process mentioned above, shutting the engine off clean. Just roll the cylinder to bottom dead center shine a light in and look at piston crown. The crown will change fast. FYI start with low throttle first, then mid then full. The first 2 positions will effect main jet sizing...................SRXtreme

Awesome. Thanks man
Another great read. I've read this a few times now

going to go get new plugs right away but did a little testing this morning. one at half throttle and one at wot. looked at the pistons and could only see a dry black piston in each. hard to tell if any brown to it. Didnt see any silver spots or bare piston though. still got an idle hang so might have to turn out the fuel screw a tadd.

You should always jet rich, then work your way down from there. Sounds like your lean. Pay attention to air density and humidity as it plays a big part................SRXtreme

For sure. Im getting a set of 150 mains to test with and go from there. most days ive gone out have been o deg f about and pretty humid. id like to stay on the rich side to be safe and not just a race tune right on the edge.
