Exciter 440 chain tension

79 ex440 what's the proper way to set the chain tension. I'm guessing remove cotter pin and loosen jam nut tighten by hand then back off a certain amount does any body know how much thanks

I turn back one half turn and put cotter pin back in. Don't want too loose

is there a jam nut? to me it doesn't seem to loosen or tighten you just pull the pin tighten bolt by hand then put pin back in and that's what holds it?

Does this pin look correct? or am I missing something here?? Because once I have the tension set and cotter pin installed, I don't see what is stoping the tension bolt from being able to loosen off .
