For awhile now my 96 600 VMAX as been spudders it seems at 5500 rpm exactly while driving and when the parking brake is on. Could be a crank seal or a choke stuck? What do you guys think?

Lots of things that could be. Does it do it past 5500 and keep doing it? You can check crank seal by spraying carb cleaner behind the clutch while it is running. If the sound in the motor changes the seal is leaking. Easy to rule that out. I had a bad cable on my 96 that would not let the chokes close all the way all the time.

Sounds like a clutch problem. I had to rebuild the primary on my 96. I thought I blew the sled up. It sounded like it was missing but it was the primary for sure. I bought a comet for it and when I put it on it worked perfectly. Then I rebuilt the factory clutch and now it is perfect. You would have never thought by the way the engine sounded it was the clutch but it was.

How long have you had the sled and is the clutching right or did someone try to clutch it? Are your carbs clean?

Carbs are as clean as can be and I have owned it for a year and half and never had problems haven't tried doing any upgrades to clutch just had the secondary and primary off by a sled mechanic never had a problem after till now . Danny it's a constant thing choke didn't help it image.jpg

No it will not go past 5500 unless it is eased on. Its not the stator as the lights aren't dimming or anything.

The stators have several coils in it. The ones that run the lights are not the same coils that trigger the ignition system.

You posted a picture of the clean looking carbs, have you had them apart to check/clean all the passages?

Do you know someone with a similar machine you can swap the ignition coil and CDI box with?

The simplest thing would be the plugs, are they new/good/correct heat range?
Are both plugs burning the same color?

The only time my sled gave me any trouble was when a NGK fine wire plug had burned the electrode to about a .060" gap. It would bog/fall on its face under WOT.

Needless to say, I don't use those fine wire plugs anymore.
