I was testing the stator, The brown - blk/red should have 435 ohms. I have zero. Would this cause the engine not go pass 8000 rpms. Thanks
 
At what temp are you test the stator in? It should be 70* when testing in order to get a good reading.
If it is zero I would get a new stator as this will only start to cause a bigger headache as it will start to fail altogether.
 
The reason i ask is because I was at a radar run this weekend. I check power valves for pull through, check servo, opens valves at 900 rpms, ran on stand would open valves at high rpm. Tried 2 different clutches, remove 3 grams from weights and put 2 shims behind spring. still would not pull pass 8000. Runs good up till then. Check compression tonite 120 psi on all cylinders
 
I did unplug the headlight, no change in rpm. I put the original clutch on that i knew it went to 8500, but still would not pull rpm. I did check muffler & pipes. Has new plugs & caps.
 
Sorry guys had a bad BRAIN FART! had ohm meter set at 200 ohms. recheck this morning had 410 ohms. Back to drawing board. Thanks everyone.
 
I know this might be a dumb question but are the power valves upside down? The big bevel goes down and is a very easy mistake.
 
time to check phase of crank......

take all 3 spark plugs out, use a long handled screwdriver, insert in hole against piston. Bring each cylinder up to TDC. Go down to clutch and make a mark on the case at 12 o clock looking at it, then make a mark on the clutch, repeat the mark on the clutch for each cylinder. When your done you should have 3 marks on the clutch. take a cloth measuring tape and see if you have the exact same distance between the marks.

this is the backyard way of doing it but is effective and accurate enough to check the phase.
 
Check crankshaft phase looks ok. how much gas/oil mix should be in the air box. It is wet but not like running out.
 
I cleaned them this summer, before the snow fell. Did not start it till then. The reason I feel I have a problem is because at the radar run in only ran 88 mph in 1000 ft. Checked clutches primary was 1/4 inch from top at full shift.
 
always damp inside the box, that's normal like a thin film all over.

stators max output is at wide open throttle so its very well possible its weak in the coils, and wont supply enough power to further let the engine go. I would replace it, make sure you put a oem Yamaha one in. The aftermarket ones are junk, been there done that before.....
 
I seen a bad stator not let the motor achieve full rpm's. I think it's when the powervalve motor draws more juice a week stator can't keep up. We chased it till we lost spark completely.
