84 Phazer carb/ airbox removal?

How?? I don't see any logic here... I've heard it's one of the worst airbox in all of sledding to pull out. I don't care about it going back in, I'll just put pod filters on. I need to clean the carbs desperately before the riding is all gone for the year. Any help is greatly appreciated
 

As I proceeded, First remove the 2 screws that holds the airbox, you can get to them through a little flap on the console, that will give you the clearance. Then you will be better removing the "crosstube" between the 2 intakes. Remove the throttle cable , both choke plungers. Then loosen all clamps, pull the carbs from the engine tip them and remove them from the boots of the airbox.

Keep in mind mine is a 1991, so there could be differences
 
There's a flap on the dash?
Nvm, I found it... lol. So what about the plastic panel over the top of the airbox? Will that be in my way?

the plastic panel is a pain in the butt but it can stay.

For the fuel lines I guess you will have to get creative

Some d-bag glued the cross-tube in the intake boots, so I'm not risking shredding them. The dash piece is a mofo too..
 
If you want the engine to run decent and live, I would suggest to re-install the air box.

unless you plan on spending some time rejetting them, witch on those carbs is not really easy for the midrange.

For the filter, there is no real need for it, usually in the environment the sleds runs, there is very little dust

Except for belt and brake dust, both of which are not nice. I'd rejet it if I have to... not a big deal. It seemed to be running fat as all shit all ready, so we will see when I get up there next weekend.
 
What these guys are trying to say is that without an airbox the carbs pull in air that is sometimes cold and sometimes very hot from your motor. Very difficult to make these yammis run good without consistent temp intake air.

As far as belt and brake dust my airbox only pulls air from outside the hood so it can't really get any of that.

That not all of it either. By removing the airbox, you will lean it out. The stock carbs are good for tuning the pilot circuit ant main, but as there are no needles, the midrange is close to untunable. You have the possibility to change the emulsion tubes but the information on that is scarse to say the least
 
My airbox was full of garbage. I can't even tell where the air even comes from on this thing. I took off the airbox on my skidoo, runs just fine. Yamaha waverunners run just fine with underhood air. If it runs better than it did last weekend, I'm good (it better, it ran like hell)

No. All I wanted to know was how to get it off. Fully stated that it wasn't going back on. And I thank you guys for helping me with that. I can go to the shop and pick up some jets. I got flack on the skidoo forum for taking off the airbox too. I don't see why ppl get all bent out of shape over it. It's my sled, if i want the stupid box gone, I want it gone. I've 5aken the box off (or at least modified it) on everything over ever owned. Thank you for the concern tho. It's not like I want to smoke my motor, I want it to run good!

If you want it to run as good as it can, keep the airbox, gut it and modify it's pickup so it draws air from where air is cold, outside the engine bay while trying to keep snow from getting in. That would the best option along with a bit of jetting
