New track for PZ3

I'm looking at new tracks for a 1999 Phazer 500. This would be for trail riding in Michigan and I don't stud. Would you guys go with a 1" or 1.25" lug? Either way I think I'd get the Predator track as it's reasonably priced and a huge upgrade over the stock track.

My other sleds have 1.25's but they also have 2X the horsepower of this Phazer.
 
What do you guys think about the "Energy" track? It's the lightest track I can find (only 32 pounds) so it should rob less horsepower than the more aggressive 1" tracks.
 
The energy isn't fully clipped. I have the energy on my srx, it eats slides during marginal snow conditions. It works great as long as you have enough loose snow to keep the slides cool.
 
I just saw brand new 14" wide Hacksaws on EBay for $300 shipped... Think the 14 wide would be better than an Energy? Or at least comparable?
 
i had a energy(called a challenger back then) track on my 700 after the original yokohama went to hell in under 900 miles on my sled ...put 10,000 miles on my energy track with 2 sets of studs ...
i just plain wore the track out it needed all new clips but really held up well i now have a ripsaw on the sled that i have almost 3k miles on and like that too
 
The original Ripsaw is an excellent track for this sled. Not so good for higher powered sleds, but real good for this one. You should be able to get one of these used real cheap. I have run a couple like this and it really changes that sled. The hacksaw is also a great choice. The sled really needs to be geared down as you can only ever reach full rpm at full shift out in optimum conditions and usually downhill.
 
Ding, by "gear down" do you mean a 1 tooth larger bottom sprocket? I've never ridden this Phazer but I plan to only ride groomed trails.
 
Many ways to do it, but I would achieve 7 - 10 percent. 8 tooth drivers is 11% and maybe a little much for your setup. Just do the math on the gears (I would have to look them up again). Keeping the same chain and bottom gear will be the cheapest. Ok, maybe I will look it up.
 
2 teeth on top would be great, but even 1 tooth on top would be good. Adding 1 to bottom does about half of what dropping 1 tooth on top does so changing bottom is problematic to get the ratio you want. I recommend shooting for around 2:1 with 9 tooth x 2.52 drivers on that sled.

I would simply get a 19 top gear and keep the rest the same.

Theoretical top speed drops from 83 to 75 mph, but it can't get to 83 anyway. Unless going down a steep hill. The speedo would be in the upper 90's when it did this.

I ended up with a 14" wide Hacksaw new take-off-track from a 2008 style Phazer. Pretty awesome track for $280 shipped, and it only weighs 30 lbs!
 
Hey Ding, do you know what other sleds' top gears fit my Phazer. It's 13mm wide and has 15 splines.

Edit: Nevermind, I found one on EBay!
