I just came back to Yamaha after a few years with Artcic cat. Picked up a left over '04 SX Viper Mountain.

Now the loaded question...do I use Yamalube or can I make use of the two cases of shell full synthetic oil I have left. This oil was excellent for the power valves on my 800 and never encountered any stuck valves.

yea i would go with the shell before the yamalube. Interceptor is awesome as well
 
With that sled not being a power valved motor go with the Amsoil HP it's a couple of dollarsa quart cheaper then the interceptor and will do a great job
 
for some reason BRAD thinks there is no power valves in the mnt. viper. he is wrong they are also self cleaning. i would definatly use the shell before yamalube since its synthetic and the yamalube sticks to the valves bad. keep using synthetic it helps alot on the valve cleaning and mantinence.
 
I agree with redsnake. Yamahalube leaves subborn deposits. Go with the shell. BTW, I also like SkiDoo's synthetic that recommend for power valved Rotax. 3700 miles on my 500 Doo and there was nothing!
 
I use yamalube on my viper and after 2000 miles the valves are REALLY dirty. I can notice a small difference right after cleaning them.
 
I just got done with a 1500 mile test on my two vipers. Ran one with amsoil interceptor and the other with yamalube 2S. The yamalube valves were easier to remove but they were both pretty cruded up.

Winner of comparison between amsoil interceptor and yamalube? yamalube.
It's cheaper and didn't make the valves any worse than the amsoil. If you use either of these oils you should clean your valves very 1000 miles..

This test was done with two sleds driven in the same conditions and at similar speeds on trails in northern wisconsin and the UP.
