01 srx temp light code ???

Hi I recently purchased an 01 Yamaha srx 700 and had a couple of questions about it so decided to join this forum. The sled runs great but the only thing wrong with it is the temp light flashes a code, the flas pattern is a total of three flashes with 2 long flashes and one short one all within 3 - 4 seconds I looked up the chart and believe it is either a bad temp sensor or a bad tps sensor but I'm not sure which as I have always ridden articcat's and don't know much about Yamahas also if it is a bad tps or temp sensor would it be ok to ride it like that or should I get someone to fix it, also it idles pretty high at about 1500 rpm I was told it should idle at 900 but I backed the idle screw all the way out and it dropped to about 1200 rpm any input would help

Does the code only flash on startup or all the time? If all the time I would try wiggling the wires to see if maybe you have a broke wire.
Your idle should be around 1800-/+ 100.
You will love the power and performance that the srx makes. You got a really nice sled!

Yeah it flashes all the time and I will have to turn the idle up a notch I also forgot to mention that the owner before me broke the kill switch so it's bypassed where it plugged in could this be why it's flashing ?
 
I reread your post and that code is definitely the TPS sensor. I would check the wires for any breaks or rub troughs or maybe a loose wire And if that don't work then I would get a new tps. You can run it like it is but fixing it would be the best.
If you search around on here you will find more info on the tps sensor.
I'm sure someone else will chime in on your problem with some more info.
 
It's possible, maybe the previous owner tried adjusting the tps.
Does it pull rpms good all the way through 8500 or is it kinda slugish getting there? With the idle turned down does the light come on at higher rpms?

So I adjusted the idle to 1700rpm lifted the track off the ground and ran it to about 5000rpm and it goes through the Rpm's fine and dosent sound sluggish at all but the light will still flash the code
 
You can run it like it is but you should probably replace your tps sensor. You can replace it yourself and follow the steps to calibrate it or take it to your local sled shop or dealer and let them do.
Best part is you got all summer to sort out the bugs from the previous owner and it gives you a chance to get to know your sled inside and out. Better to do it know than to wait till winter and rush things.
 
With it being summer there's not many guys on here but around the end of October everybody comes back and any questions you might have about your srx will be answered. The srx is a very popular sled on here.
Once you get the bugs worked out you will not regret your purchase.

One of my neighbors down the road is a Yamaha tech Ile have him fix it but, thank you for all the help
 
No problem, that's why I joined this site. I a couple questions I couldn't figure out and the guys on here helped me get it fixed.Just post anymore questions you might have.

So I read the tag on the belt guard and it said the sled calls for ngk br9ecs plugs well the previous owner had br9es plugs in it so I picked up 5 new br9ecs's threw them in and my code went away, not sure what spark plugs would have to do with a tps but the code no longer flashes
 
This will help understand the difference. Basically it all comes down to is different combustion in the srx so the electrode angel is different.

You have a 5 cyl? mine's only 3. That must really fly! (JK)
