Has anybody heard any rumors what's going on for the 2005 sleds. (Yamaha of course).

a 250 hp 4 stroke mtn machine with a 159 track and it only weighs 3oo pounds.
There is a rumour i would love to see come true for 05.

cheers and merry Christmas all

05 sleds

I can guarantee you u'll never see another triple triple srx. I have heard rumors of a 4 stroke twin 800, with posibly a turbo or a surper charger. if so it'll prolly weight a good 700lbs the way yamaha has been goin. My dealer said he'll know for sure what the new ones are in feb. 2004

rumors

knowing Yamaha, and being a forced mountain rider, I predict a 6 cylinder, 120 hp clean burning 850 lb 121" track, with 3" wide super slider trail skis and a 1/2 size seat. Or maybe they will make a 2 cylinder wankel 4 stroke, throw under 2 tracks, 6"x96", and call it a trail tamer thats "unbeatable in the mountains".
Did that sound synical? I think it sounded synical.

Cynical yes. And you're circling the block on jaded as well!

We just can't have it all. AC has great features on paper, but will most likely be unsatisfying in the long run, as over quality issues come into play. Same with Poodle, and the SD stuff, while innovative and tempting, seems to be made for racer wannabe's with huge wallets.

Can we get back to a $5000 sled?

rumors

only trouble is the only 5000.00 sled they would make would be a snoscoot, and we all know how many of us want them, but it would have a kohler 2.5 hp lawnmower engine, cleanburning, quiet, useless. Kind of the reason that most of the mountain guys I know went Rev, including Yamaha's own major R&D guy that I work for on and off. For shame Yamaha, for shame.

sledding

Sledding for the guys that ride mountains, is paramount to all us western Canadians and politics. Even though there is huge moneyand involvement in the west, we dont matter. All our policies are made in Ontario and Quebec, all the sleds Yamaha makes are for the flatlanders in the East. We get the left over long tracks and they call it a 'mountain' sled. I love Yamaha, but damn it would be nice to go buy something that would come close to a Polaris, skidoo, or Cat, for the last 5 years there has been nothing at all, and the gap is widening. Good for you guys, sucks to be us. Yes, I know you can spend 5000-10000 and make a yamaha climb, but the allure is going fast. I had a 24,000.00 sled, and got a rx1 mtn that needs 5000.00 in skid, track, tunnel, exhaust just to keep up to a 00 rmk 700.

I'd assume the RX1 motor has enough power, it's up to you to get it to the track and make it perform how you want it to. To me, that's the fun of owning a Yamaha, making it my very own personal sled.

When other folks are getting a new sled ever year, along with a new loan and new debt, I'm doing little things, and getting a sled that feels like new.

Of course, I don't ride where you ride big guy. If you say a RX1 mountain can't climb like a rmk7, it must be true. I think the potential for both sleds is lopsided to the Yamaha though.

If it were me, I'd do 3 things. Skis, traction, and clutching. Maybe a tempaflow to make sure she's spot on alla time.

I don't know if the RX1 needs a 156" track, you'd think with that big of foot print is would get too hard to throw around. I think I'd look into using the SD 16" wide track, and see what mods are required for that. It's funny that Skidoo is just going back to what worked in the 60's and 70's! Wide track models just float better.

Good luck with it Ken, I know if anyone can get it screamin up the hill, you can ;)

mountaining a one ton

Thanks for the vote of confidence buddy. The plan was to quit going to the mountains altogether, as we were going to get metres of snow but I could have gone golfing yesterday. With a white ball. And a t-shirt. This is Alberta right, we havent switched equators or something? So, if I want to go sledding again this year, I am forced to go to the mountains. Aw darn :) . I got the RX1 because of the reliability, thinking that it would last me 'forever' around here. Now to keep up with a viper, (which is waaaaaaay behind a 700 rmk) I have to track, skid, ski, lightweight hood, ligher exhaust. When I put on a Ekholm skid, the configuration of it means that there is almost 10" more track on the ground, than any other, short of the expert. If you line up 2 156" sleds, one the ekholm, 1 not, there is at least one set of paddles more on the ground. Bigger is better, so I am going 159. Most guys dont like the rx1 in the mountains, because most guys are 5'10, 175 and cant throw it around. I am almost 6'6, over 325, and I can toss it anywhere, easy. We go in snow that you wouldnt believe John, up hills that are huge. In Pemberton, we rode 1 climb, after riding 1/2 hour to get to the alpine, that took almost 4 minutes, WFO! We rode in snow that was 4' deep, and some weekends Revlestoke gets 3-4 FEET every day. There can be 500 sleds running on saturday, turn the top of the alpine into a parking lot, then go up in 12 hours and not find a track. I have said all the time in here, you guys that are hard core sledders have to get to the Rockies once in your lives, get to my place, come with us, we will either get you a sled, skis, or crazy carpet to get up to the cabin if you dont bring one or rent one, the you can see what mountain sledding is all about. I rode nothing but flatland all my life, and the first time I rode the mountains, I couldnt close my eyes that night, thinking I was going to die going over some cliff, with a 3000' drop. WHEEEEEEEEEE when are we going again?

kbx, that post made me druel, and I got wood. Its 40 plus here in MN today, light rain overnight and this morning - pretty sad when it's so warm in MN after Christmas that you get rain - even overnight. Oh well, the powerball lottery is up to $170 million for tonight, if I win, I will call you in the morning for directions. :D

lottery

you dont need a lottery, warm up the plastic and get your butt out here, I need an excuse to go sledding again, its been almost a week since we were there. Steve hasnt even taken the Viper off the deck yet, all my stuff is sitting on the floor ready to go. BRAAAAAAAAAP wheeeeeeeee!

Yamaha does all the magazine photo shoots in Cooke city, I have seen a couple new sleds but the are pretty secretive about them they cover them when we go by. I did see a new rx1 looking sled, It was red with black stripe up the hood said warrior on the hood but I know nothing about what was under the hood, There is a good point of gossip for ya

paparazzi

Whitee you should see if you can either buy or borrow a camera with a huge telephoto lens, and carry it with you. I bet you could get uber dollars for sneaky pics of concept iron, I know the magazines pay lots for papazzi pics. There has to be some magazines that would do that.

PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

whitee get those pics, keep looking and tell us what you see. Take a look at the reat end if you can to see if they changed the suspension at all. If we got another warrior for next year I'd kinda be disappointed unless it has some kind of "kick" to it.

sorry didnt see the rear of the sleds just front view but they will be back after the new year and I will try to spy more

My reply here is yamaha makes a great sled. The polaris's and artic cat's boast they have the best sled but really thay are no better than my disposable rasor. You use it than throw it away. The USA has grave yards for them. As for putting money into a yamaha to make them run with the rest of them that is debatable. I was a specialty sled and what did they have on there floor was to brand new mountain revs. They both had the twins taken out and mach z triples put in them. The engine alone cost 6500.00. Add pipes porting and labour, I hope you have a fat wallet. The 5000.00 to do your rx1 is starting to sound cheap and a stage 3 turbo gives 300hp. The triple rev gives 200hp and a crank that can't handle it. I like to know how many rev's you can hook together and let a rx1 with a stage 3 turbo pull them where they can't go. Ski doo makes a good sled but yamaha makes better.
