1996 VMax 600 xt clutch id

I inherited a 1996 VMax 600xt with pro action suspension. I had ridden it years ago when my father owned it and the primary clutch ate rollers. As a repair, my father bought a used clutch and swapped it on. I am cleaning it and trying to ensure it engages and controls engine rpm as it should. I need help identifying what it came off.

What I see as unique about it is 3 phenolic sliders that control the sheave as it closes on the belt

(Not my pic but very similar...)The circled area has a white plastic (phenolic) guide in it (as do the other two "arms") that send to keep the sheave aligned when it compresses or closes on the belt. The one pictured and others I find don't have these. Can anyone help id what this clutch is off?

The white slider as Yamaha calls them would be from a 91 to 93 Phazer, Exciter, or VK 540. The core of the clutch is identical to a 94-96 Vmax clutch and would be not be causing issues like were discuss here. The tuning parts may be different though. If you are eating rollers, check to see that the weight bushings are good and that the weight to roller mating surface is smooth and not irregularly worn. If the rest of the clutch is is in good shape I would be looking at the crank for run-out that is way out of spec. A sled that has blown a belt or grenaded a clutch becomes highly suspect of having the PTO stub out of whack. Check the belt guard, belly pan, inside of hood, frame and anywhere around the clutches/belt etc for damage, like things flying off the belt or clutch. This may give you a better clue to what may be going on.

This one isn't eating parts, but the older one did, rollers seized. I was just wondering about the arms and weights. It seems to engage where it should like 3700, but I think old belt is glazed and slipping, as the sled doesn't start moving until more like 5k. I got new one to put on after scouring sheaves. Thank you for the info. That's exactly what I was looking for. Can those sliders be causing the clutch to snap back open on deceleration?
