Sled just revs after riding for a short time, not spinning track

Ok not sure what the problem is but sled starts fine, took it out in the fields for some fun. After a little while it just starts revving up like there is no belt on it. I back off the throttle and limp it along and it gets going again but will gradually start just revving up and losing drive to the track, any ideas? Track is tight and not slipping, bearings are good and chain is tight. I looked at the belt and I don't see anything out of the ordinary, clutch engages between 3-4k. When I first start out it's fine but after maybe 5 minutes of riding around this starts happening and its worse in deep snow, if on a path I have already gone on it's not as bad.

Could there be something wrong with the belt but not visible? Any ideas?

I have not had it apart this year, it's been a couple years since it was apart but that was to clean it and it was fine ever since. The sled starts out great but after a short while of use it starts doing this.

OK I took the secondary off and apart. It seemed to operate smoothly and the slides/ramps look to be in decent shape as well. The spring is green/white. The top of the spring was in the "3" hole and the bottom of the spring was in the "1" hole, does this sound correct? It was easy to disassemble without any special tools and looked simple to put back together.
 
3 and 1 is wrapped very loose. I'm not a redhead owner so I'm not sure where they like to be but I would guess 60 or 70 degrees. Which would be 3 and 3 or 6 and 1 respectively
 
It was very loose when taking apart, I looked in the tech section and read elsewhere that 60* twist is stock so I'll set it up for that and give it a go once and see what happens.
 
My guess is that you were sucking the belt down in the secondary. When you were limping it along it had enough time to come back up in the secondary. As stated by staggs I would start at 6-1 on the wrap. Any chance the bottom of the spring could have jumped holes on you. Spring being warn? Looks like a green spring. White was just underneath the green possibly.

I reassembled the secondary at 6 and 1 and took it for a ride around the yard and woods and can tell the shifting difference and it ran great, went out to the fields where all the fresh deep stuff is and after a couple rips it started slipping again then I opened up the hood and belt cover and there was a lot of snow down in there and wondered if snow getting in can cause the belt to slip? If I stay around the house on the paths I've got pushed down for my daughters little kitty cat I never have the problem it's only when I go out into that field and play in the deep powdery stuff.
 
What year sled is it? And what motor does it have? Factory for a 700 is a white spring at 6-1. You can field tune your peak rpm in the field by changing the wrap 10 degrees but that is the starting point.
 
My guess is that that's the problem as it doesn't happen when I am putting around the yard or woods, only once I go out into the fields and rip around. And each time I have done that now and checked the belt its packed with snow, looks like I am going to have to find out where it is coming in and stop it. Haha none of them! I was trying to remember what the stock spring was and couldn't find the chart right away. I ran a silver secondary one winter and it was a w-w-w primary I was remembering. Horrible setup. I'm thinking Tom Hartmann was messing with me in all honesty when he gave me that setup.

Not to get too off topic but I can't to this day figure out why Tom told me what he did. It doesn't seem like anything other than misinformation and I had just spent a ton of money buying all the parts to long track my mtn max from him. He said to run a www primary with a silver secondary at 70. I couldn't do anything. Trying to climb I would be hitting 10 grand at around 1/4 throttle and have to back out of it. Wound up with heel clickers and they recommended the stock 43 secondary on the green spring, maybe a 45 in really fluffy snow to get the track speed up faster. She pulls just under 9000 now it's an animal.

is there a hole in the bellypan under the clutch? check and see if bellypan is torn loose allowing snow in on the clutchs. you get a little thru the hood vents but not like that pic shows....lol
