chaincase question

So I just picked up a Nice viper that was suppose to need a new top end. well after looking it over I found the muffler was plugged and he had number 1 & 2 plug wires crossed! but after inspecting the chaincase dipstick i noticed it had atf fluid in it?! Ive heard about people using it but is it safe to use??? Im gonna change it but Im just curious if you can use it?

nothin wrong with atf in chaincase works great, high detergent too. If it wasn't any good 4wd trucks transfer cases and all modern stick shift trans wouldnt run it, you will have zero problems using it in the chaincase. I have used it in every sled I have owned for at least 15years, ZERO failure rate! its also cheap enough I change it out every year as part of my pre ride go over along with clean the carbs, adjust track, etc.

if tranny fluid worked so good, yamaha would recommend it. hdyamaha84 , for a long day of trail riding yamaha recommends the oil i posted right out of the service manual. now if its the cost your worried about, thats up to you. no where dose yamaha recommended atf. now i use it in three sleds for racing, my trail sled would have what was posted. good luck 3:16x (yammie tony)

Cost is not an issue.. but look I'm not getting into a argument. Mr Viper made some good points about the fluid and I agree with him. I might try it and see how it looks after a couple rides and from there.. thank ya sir for your input!

hdyamaha84, don't even bother to reply to the bait. If youll notice anytime someone doesn't agree with "the" one and only opinion here, they have to be argued with.
If everything we did to snowmobiles had to be listed in a manual, youd never have gotten to use synthetic oil which we all know burns cleaner then yamalube does but its not in the manual telling you to use it...is it.....lol.

ride safe this season, youll be fine on the chaincase lube!

True story here.

1. 2011 Ford 3/4t van
2. 2000 miles driven/week
3. She dropped it off EVERY Saturday for an oil change. So she didn't have to get an oil change in the middle of her work week.

Now as we all know, auto timing chains are pretty much the same construction as our chain case chains. If not EXACTLY!! And they are lubed by engine oil.

4. We saw it 4 months ago with over 600,000 miles on it. Still having the factory installed timing chain.

Morale of the story. Whatever fluid you choose, weather it be ATF, 0/20, 5/30, 10/40, 15/40, 20/50, straight 30 or gear oil ........ as long as it is replaced frequently you'll be fine.
