97 vmax 700 jackshaft problem

Ive looked everywhere for info on this problem but am coming up empty. Thanks to all for taking the time to read and offer input.

I have a 97 Yamaha Vmax 700 SX and I was riding last season and the jackshaft slid out to the left about an inch, disconnecting from the chain case and loosing power to the track. Engine still ran fine. Took it apart and couldnt find anything wrong, so I re assembled. This season fired up and drove for about 5 minutes, and same thing happened. Rechecked all parts again and can not see anything broken or missing.
Any ideas?

Was the nut on the shaft?

In the first pic item #21(bolt set), second pic item #24 (nut) If those are tight I don't see how the shaft can move.

I thought both were tight but I suppose not tight enough. The nut would be laying in the bottom of the chaincase when I removed it.

Are there any indentations that the set screw have to sit in?
Should I be using loctite?

Clean it off and use Loctite, also use the proper torque specs, I think it's 35 ftlbs on the big nut, but double check. Loctite the set screw as well. I don't remember the torque spec for that.
