I have recently found a 2002 MM 700 144" for sale.... This thing is still brand new and less than 1000 KM or 600 miles on it....

I live no where near mountains nor do I intend to ride in the mountains but would like a long track with deep lugs for breaking trail through the bush....I generally ride new broken bush trails and some groomed trail riding but find I can't break anything with my 99 500 VMax C 121".... Just the slightest deep snow and I am stuck...I often send someone with a two-up touring and long track in front to do the trail breaking while I follow behind...

Because this sled is reasonably priced and nearly brand new, I would prefer not spending that which a new 700 Venture would cost....Would this sled dissapoint me when in the bush breaking trails and general trail riding..... I never race nor do I intend on modding my sleds too much....I want just a reliable general purpose sled which can break trail when required...

Not at all versed with the MM, any help is appreciated....

If the price is right I wouldn't hsitate to get another one. We have an '02 MM700 and it is mostly flat land around here. We like to cross country it and play in the drainage ditches and snow banked tree lines. We love the MM. It has pulled the Vmax out many times. Ours has been very dependable and I would get another one if I could.

From the sound of it I think you would be very happy with that sled. Last
year I bought a '01 MM700 with a few more miles on it and am loving it.
It'll take me wherever I want to go, is quiet, and gets excellant mileage.
Just don't expect it to corner like a trail sled and don't let the hyfax get
too hot on hardpack.
In your post you say 'I want just a reliable general purpose sled which
can break trail when required.'
I'd say that's a good description of it.

I own a 2001 MM700. It now has 10,000 km on it. This sled is ued for everything, riding groomed trails, playing in the powder, hauling lumber and other supplies to our cabin. I would not hesitate in buying another. I think that this is one of the best snowmobiles that Yamaha has produced.

Repair costs to date include; 1 handle bar warmer, 2 ski shocks, 2 sets of carbides, 2 tracks and drive bearings (changed them when I changed the track - they did not fail).
I run 4,000 to 5,000 km on belts and one set of spark plugs per year.

Compression is good. I feel that this engine will run 20,000+ km before it needs to be refreshed. The clutches will require refreshing this season.

Pssst...the reason your lil5 gets stuck is you have the stock Yoko track, which is like riding on bald tires in snow. My buddy's 600 has to follow my tracks in deep snow ;)
 
Which track would you reccomend for my little 500?.... I NEVER RACE ANYONE, I ONLY TRAIL RIDE...

I must say at this time that my 500 has not ever disappointed me....It runs perfectly, handles great, good accelleration and a top end that is fast enough for me...My only wish is I could get better gas mileage....I'm presently averaging about 7 mpg....

Would gearing down to 21/39 instead of the stock 22/39 help my fuel consumption??..

I'm hoping the tripple MM will be easier on gas...
