Center cylinder lost all compression - your guess?

1184 from Threebond is fine. Never ever ever never use this Threebond with the Mopar name on it. It literally..... and I mean literally, takes a chisel and hammer to separate two pieces bonded w/ this stuff.
They(mopars) come out of the factory w/ this shtuff on the oil pan. The pan is ALWAYS destroyed when it needs to be removed for warranty work.

Thanks for the heads up. I was going to get some genuine Yamabond 4 but I discovered it was no longer available in EU. Not even the Yamaha dealership could get hold of any. From my understanding the Threebond 1184 (grey) has the same content as Yamabond 4 and I was lucky to find some from Ebay France.

I got the trued crank back and started the assembly.

When I got to the last piston and unboxed it there was a needle missing in the needle bearing and was laying lose in the plastic container/bag. Witthout thinking I took the needle and popped it from underneeth into position then installed the last piston.

Now afterwards I feel a bit uneasy with this. Are the needles in that bearing that lose so it can shake off during tramsport? Did I put it back correctly or should I just get a new one?
 
So, to complete this thread I thought I'd give you a last update.

I got motor rebuilt a while ago and now I finally had some time to put it back in the Viper.
Assembly went well and I was almost surprised how easy it started right up and idling fine right away.
It sure smoked a lot after injecting oil into crankcase before assembly and also I'm running first tank with an extra 2%.

The smart thing to do was probably to part it out but I did it to learn and in the end it sure feels a lot better this way
 
Yes, been in that situation many times.
All of my sleds have Thousands of dollars into them over what I could sell them for.
I would guess I have spent over $15K on my XTC alone over the years...
But I will still own it when I die...lol
 
Did any bearings get replaced on the crank? I dealt with that last year when I rebuilt my 99 srx700 bottom end. The bearings that were still available from yamaha were outrageously priced, and some not even available anymore. I think that's going to do in most of these sleds. They're all coming to about the end of their crankshaft life. There's a '98 SRX600 near me for $650, looks in mint shape, but those cranks not being able to be rebuilt anymore make these machines hard to get excited about buying another one.
