Next step from a z120

Hello guys,

looking for some input on a next size up for kids to ride. Here in NY kids need to be 10 years old and take a safety course in order to ride the trails. A little back ground for my son. He has been on snowmobiles since he was 3. He had his own 120 when he was 5-6. And he rides my SRX around the yard now. He's 8 now. We are looking at a newer 4 stroke phazer for him so he has room to grow into it and don't have to keep buying him sleds every other year. With there design he has the upper pegs he can use for his foot rest. And this would be something he can ride till he wants a different sled. He is very responsible on the sleds now. I know a lot of people say go with an older 340 or 250. From what I have read in (TY posts). Trying to find parts for them can be a challenge some times. What are some of your thoughts. Any issues with the phazer? Also posted on 4 stroke side as well. Looking for over all input.

We looked at the snoscoot but he would grow out of that fast. 1-2 years and he would be ready for something more. Thanks for the info.
 
Also maybe a mountain max 500, I rode a zr120 and then we got some Polaris indy's and then I rode a mountain max 500 twin, then a mountain max 600 triple and now a 2004 viper, I love snowmobiling.
 
I started on an olympic and bravo. From that I jumped to the ovation and then to the 485 phazer. The Bravo Transporter (short track) will top out at about 80km/h in the best of going, down hill with the wind at your back :). All kidding aside, the bravo was a lot of fun growing up; easy to start, easy to get unstuck and turn around. Although he may be responsible, he still is a kid and when dad isn't watching is when the fun starts. I have no idea what the new phazer is like weight wise but could it be to much for a little guy? We still have the ovation and i get on it every now and then to fart around and it has more than enough get up and go for a full size adult 220 lbs... one of the tricks they used around here is a chunk of wood behind the throttle with electrical tape - although as kids we learned quick to snag the tape roll and bring it along.

For me as my son is only 1 now i`ve already been trying to find a bravo for him as he grows.
 
Inviter. My son rode one for years. I know it's a 300cc one lunger but it hauled my 300# carcass around for years as well. EASY EASY EASY to steer and plenty of speed for any non-speed demon. Comfortable as all get out as well. Great wind protection. He almost never came in cold. Only on the most frigid days.
The kid would go out and ride for 5 hours and would come back with 3/4 of a tank of gas.

Two years ago I found two '79 ET250s from separate sellers and enough parts to build at least another and a half - less than $800.00 invested. I started looking around this time of year and had both ready to ride by the next season. Still have a bunch of parts.
 
Just bought my phazer with hopes my 5 year old will move up to it someday, he fits in front of me good now. They can be a hard turning sled at times, need to be setup right to not feel stiff steering and also very tippy on hillsides, takes some getting used to but as far as power it would be perfect for a young guy coming up.
