Vmax 540 production years help

Hey guys, I recently purchased a yamaha vmax 540 the sled really seems in decent a shape. It came with tons of spare parts so I shouldn't really be looking to buy much extra parts aside from gaskets and carb rebuild kits. My issue is I can't determine the year of the sled. The chassis looks like brand new not even missing painting the foot area but it's manufacturer date says 1989. From my research yamaha didn't make a vmax 540 in 1989 or 1990. Is it possible the chassis was switched from a 1990 sled and if so what sleds actually would of fot a vmax 540 that is liquid cooled. When I search for parts online it only give me 1983-1987 listing for the vmax. Thanks for any help

Yes. 88 and up are very rare. Vin # prefix on the tunnel will tell the story. Post it and you'll get your answer.

Ok so if this sled really is a 1990 it's a rare one ? I doubled checked and it's manufacturer date is 1989. I'll try to get a Vin number and some pics. Thanks guys

Just checked my VIN and it's an 87V-0000135 so I guess it is a 1990 vmax 540. Few people tell me it's rare. It came with a full truck.load of spare parts from engine parts to body parts. I'm think if I order all new gaskets for engine and carbs along with some paint and reproduction decals it'll look awesome

My understanding is that 88 and up Vmax 540's were only sold in Canada and possibly other countries. They were not sold in the US after 87 so rarity will depend on where you are although total production #'s are probably still very low.
