When my car won't start I call CAA and have it boosted or towed to a shop and repaired while I relax and have a cup of coffee, not an option in the bush were people occasionally die from exposure, but you're right, really not often enough to concern ourselves with. The dead guy should have noticed his battery wasn't in as good of condition as he assumed......Still want to hear what the rep. said.

Yamahay, I'f your riding in that remote of an area, Alone, then you really need to rethink some things.
When I ride the mountains (never alone) I try to be prepaird for anything because I know anything can happen at any giving time. I carry around 10 lbs of first aid and survival gear on my person. I am always ready to spend the night on the mountain if the situation turns bad.

I guess if your that worried about a battery failure stick with your 2-smoke. ===SRXSRULE===

SRXSRULE I guess it's time for a member name change...how about SRXSUCK or maybe SRXDROOL there's always 4STROKESRULE (didn't check may be taken already, so act fast!) LOL! My point was and still is there is no provision for emergency starting on the 4 strokes. The OEMS for years have been supplying emergency pull cords if the recoil fails and that option is now gone. In the litigation gone wild U.S. what would the juries judgement be if there was such an event and the survivors family sued Yamaha for not having the forsight to provide an emergency starting system. This whole thread was to simply hear what the Yamaha rep. said and to point out the guy asked a valid question and he wasn't a moron.

If this helps, it is possible to pull start your warm 4-stroke Yammie. It has been done but not by me yet. If your sled is cold, it should be near where you are keeping warm anyway. BTW I have put a smaller battery in my sled, no problems, and MPI makes a jumper cable that works off a sled's headlight.

I can't believe someone is worried about a battery failing and leaving them dead on the trail! I can think of a lot more things that can go wrong on a 2-stroke that would leave you on a trail. As said before, if you are riding by yourself in an area that is so desolate that you are worried about pull starting, you need to rethink your plan. How many batteries in your car have you replaced in the miles you have driven? How many rings, in your 2-stroke have you replaced in the miles you have driven? I worry more about my 2-stroke blowing when the temp gets low than I do about my ski spindle breaking or somthing else mechanical for that matter - get the point?

Just my 2 cents ;)!
