My brothers pull start on his 1988 bravo all of a sudden quit engaging properly. You can pull the rope and the spring still retracts it properly but it’s not turning the engine over. If you try a bunch of super fast little tugs (that sure sounds wrong) you can get it to catch occasionally. But pulling it 100times every time you want to start it is getting old.
Anyways, he doesn’t live anywhere near a Yamaha dealer so he asked if I could buy some parts and come for a visit and hopefully we get it fixed.
So, I was wondering if anyone can suggest which parts to order that would likely let us get it fixed. Are there a few common to fail parts?

I was planning on getting the pawl, return spring, and friction spring - but I’m unsure if there are any other commonly worn parts I should consider.
grab a cup too. seen it still look good on a doo and it was what was causing the recoils to grenade.
