I had it running and idling fine. Took one trip around the yard and it died. It has spark. It won't even start on ether. Compression is 115. Its a 79-80ish et250.

check the decompressor on it. might be opening when running. ours ended up welded shut as it blew apart and took out a brand new piston and rings.
change the fuel filter too if you do not know when it was last done.

Why would this little 250 motor need a decompression lever? And how is it used anyway? I know how to use one on a 4-stroke dirt bike but those have way more compression.
we never used the one on ours at all and it was still pretty easy to start. mayby they thought the women needed one to start it? idk.
