Just like maxdlx said it is all about education. The people that are bitchin are the ones that don't know their ass from a hole in the ground. So before you start to take my paycheck get your duckies in a row.

Snakester, that's pretty typical unfortunately. The ski is falling, the gubmint should give me money! All too common an attitude.
KB, if anything, I could see the Bush administration giving Canada a hard time about the huge pot trade coming into the US. The whole mad cow thing is bunk, and it hurts both sides of the border. For Bush to do that wouldn't be smart. To think otherwise would be assuming he's mean, petty, and holds grudges. I don't think those things are true.

Bush hold a grudge? noooooooooooooooo
I dont know about the 'huge' pot thing, the only thing that I 'know" about drugs is that most of it coming into Canada comes through bc, from Washington. I watch cops all the time, I think most of your trouble is from your country. Vancouver, Revestoke, Victoria I think are THE WORST, but I hear there is a huge problem in GTA as well. Actually I take offense to that comment, I am a HUGE anti-drug fanatic, I belive that most of the drug trouble we have comes from the USA. You dont think that the American politicians hold a grudge? Wow thats funny, you really should watch both Yankee and Canuck news about the same topics, Canada gets blamed for so much. You cant possibly deny the fact that American warmongers and politicians are the so-called World Police? (This is not a personal shot against anyone here, I am quite sure none of you are on the federal government. As for the service boys in here, we absolutely appreciate the hell out of you. Our very survival depends on you guys, foreign and domestic alike, hats off to you.)
Being in Canada, I am constantly embarrassed by the morons that run the country. Sending a tank to the states to help in a 'world' conflict is ridiculous. Backing out of Afghanistan was notmedecision, it was Chretien's, and who knows what that loser is thinking. Oh well, you are proud to be an American, I respect that. I live in the spinoff of Eastern Canada, and neither of us has sfa to do with what the bigshots decide, all we can do is puff out our chests, or bury or faces.

gotta get out and vote man, it's all most people can manage to do. Gubmint officials can only hear you if you contact them directly. Most politicians don't want to hear from special interest groups who haven't getten behind them, or if they don't agree with them fundementally. But, if you contact them as a person, you're more likely to sound credible. The more the officials hear from average folks, the more credibility a cause gets.
I'll have to search for the article I saw on the pot trade from Canada. I'd agree that some drugs are probably made here to a greater degree than Canada, but it seems like there's alot of farm land up there I didn't want to offend you at all, I know how you stand on drugs, just about where I do! But facts are facts, let me dig some up...

I could not find the transcript from the news show I saw, they talked about how Canada's largest export next to beef was pot, had tons of footage of the indoor farms and such. I did find a long list of articles about how the Canadian gubmint has relaxed laws and punishments for pot violations, too numerous to post here.
I guess the grass is always greener on the other side, eh?

losers
John- you could be very right, I doubt it but have no facts so I cant disagree with you. My only answer, is to line the losers up, and shoot the entire ****ing works of them. My wife and I have NEVER tried any drugs at all, never had a cigarette in our mouths, and hope that our children follow suit. So, lets hope for an open season on drug growers, dealers, and even users, I hate and despise them all, and wish they would all curl up and die. I know that a ton of sledders use pot, even guys in here, if I dont know you are a drug user, I like you just fine, you dont need to stand up and be counted, because you think drug laws are wrong. I just wish 'you' all would curl up and die a terrible painful solitude death.
HAVE A GREAT DRUG FREE NEW YEAR!!!!

Sorry KB, your buddy is one of the few that has the luxury of having some good additional income. I grew up on the farm and I would be doing it now if there was any hope of making a comfortable living at it. All of my friends who stayed farming ALL have second jobs to try and make ends meet. Unless for have everything handed over to you debt free, the money isn't good at the best of times and that's only the years when you don't have drought, hail, frost, hoppers, the list goes on and on.
That's why I left, got a bit of an education and now am a minion for a big corporation who collects a paycheque twice a month. I have enough cash for a few toys and sleep really well at night.
VMJ. The pot laws are being relaxed for possession only. (an amount that adds up to a few joints) The penalties for larger amounts, trafficing and growings large quantities are supposed to get tougher from what I read about it. I am pretty surprised Canada is considered a major producer as our climate is way less than ideal for growing the stuff.
Maybe my farming buddies are finding alternative crops too sell after all!!!
KbxSrx said:OK, HERES ANOTHER CAN OF WORMS.
I have a good buddy that is a farmer. He has oil wells on his land. They dont pay Alberta health care, because they dont make enough money, and get subsidised. He makes 90,000 a year just off oil residuals. He makes 250,000+ off grain. He gets all money back for diesel to heat his place. He paid 11,000 in income tax last year, and CRIED about it. He bitches about the CROW being removed, because it was free money. He works 6 weeks a year. He gets to claim everything, all power, fuel, gas, vehicle maintenance, and still wants more free. He is not a cattle farmer anymore, but was in it for many years. He gets to buy sleds and quads every year, and write them off. He gets to pay 30,000 a year to his wife as a tax write off, and 20,000 a year into RRSP that is tax deductable. If geese eat his barley, he gets 10,000-15000 in damages, free. He sold his round bales, all 1000+ of them for 7.00 each, cash, and the other guy used his own equipment to bale them. Ask me if I feel sorry at all for Alberta Grain and Cattle Farmers. I have yet to meet a farmer that is ANYWHERE in the rough shape they claim to be, check out the house, the toys, the equipment, the rock on the wifes hand, then tell me that they need 485,000,000 in crop and cattle subsidies because last year was rough. Cry me a ****ing river.

too true
Yammerhead, I know that not every farmer is swimming in cash, nonetheless good post. I have a nephew that just moved here from Unity, after farming all his life he is now working at a canola processing plant. He said there was just no way to make a living on cattle and grain anymore. I feel for farmers that arent making a go of it for sure. The part that bothers me is the farmers that whine about income tax and cray for more free handouts. I hear it daily, living in a farm community. I mean really, my buddy made 340,000.00 in 2003, and cried for a month over BORROWING 14000.00 TO PAY INCOME TAX?!?!?!?!?! I own a business, and as far as I know, farming is the only livlihood that if there is rain, flood, drought, market trouble, feast, famine, hail, sun, dark, bad or too perfect conditions, farmers are whining about costs and begging for handouts. I am not saying it happens once in a while, its daily. You go to the local garage where all the guys meet for coffee, and its farm talk. I wish that the government would give all us small business owners half a billion dollars when our product doesnt sell.

Just a couple of quick comments on the Canadian drug issue. There currently is a problem in Canada with indoor grow operations. They are getting more and more common. Many are setup in residential neighbourhoods. The penalties imposed by our courts are very weak and not much of a deterent. I don't know what % of the total importation of cannabis into the US comes from Canada but I'm sure that it is increasing.

pot smoking madcows
and even better, they said on the news today that the cow that is sick, did indeed come from Alberta. I suppose all the feed it ate came from Canada too. Oh well, its home, I will stay forever. Just gotta weed out the undesireables, drug smokers, growers, dealers and sellers, rest of the criminals, and the politicians. Do you Yanks want them? Free?

KB, I fully understand where you are coming from, but you talk about these handouts from the government like they are better then selling a crop. Take it form someone with experience, I have had to take assistance from the overnment after potato wart hit here in PEI, potatoes were worthless, and let me tell you when you have millions of pounds sitting in storage, its very hard to sleep at night. Sure I was compensated, but that mone didn't amount to anything, so I basically threw away my entire years salaray and savings. The problem is, it was a government problem, it if wasn't for all the disputing and time wasted between countries, the borders could have been reopened more quickly and farmers would not have been in this situation. As for the income tax, I can see where your buddy is coming from, unlike other small businesses, farmers do take in a lot of money, however, the costs are far greater. Machinery costs are astronomical, much of my machinery holds at least a $100,000 price tag, and although it looks like my earnings are high, by the time wages, equipment and seed, etc are taken into consideration I am lucky to walk away with a low- moderate salary, and is thus why many farmers now have to work a second job. AS for the toys, the new trucks etc, we do this to lower our income tax, use a new truck or tractor as a write off, I know thats dumb, but why would we not take advantage of something like that. I do however agree, some farmers have it set, if you have no debt although I don't know how it could be done, then yes, you are right they are riding easy. I am sorry about the rant, but to know the headaches and struggle I go through everyday, it hurts to read stuff like that

you said it.
I feel for you and the potato nightmare. But, you said yourself that you (and most farmers) take advantage by buying trucks, sleds, tractors, etc to cover income tax. So, us tiny guys get raped by the government for income tax. Can you imagine if the gov't no longer allowed you all those BS writeoff's, and you had to pay 30% income tax like the rest of us? How mamy new trucks, sleds, quads, lawn mowers, air seeders, garages and home make- overs do you think you should get, when we get nothing? I just have no sympathy for farmers that rake in the money, write everything off, buy new toys every year, go to Las Vegas every year, and work 6 fuc**ng weeks a YEAR! Tell me if you lived buddie's life you wouldnt bitch about tax.
I hate whiny rich farmers.

haha, I only wish we could write off all that stuff, and any business owner can do write offs, if you own a business you have the right to write off a vehicle and other business related things, its not farmers who have these right offs, its business owners, which believe it or not, thats what we farmers are. About the only difference we have is a tax number which goes towards tax free fuel, and the reason for that is fuel taxes are set to help pay for road usage and repair, and tractors do not use the road to any great extent therefore the tax does not apply. All fuel for my tractor trailers and other vehicles are not tax free, I pay just like the rest of you

I know farm fuel isnt free, but 32c per l for diesel right now, and 45 for gas would be real nice.

A little bit of good news on the marihuana problems in Ontario. Good in respect of the Ontario Provincial Police finding the grow. But scary in respect of the size, sophistication, and the amount of time it went undetected.

Hopefully they get the ones responsible for the grow. It will be interesting to see what kind of sentence they get, our sentencing is generally pretty weak.

you know what frosts me? Wimp cops in Revelstoke. I called the police one time, for losers doing drugs in the hotel, they came, caught them, let them go. Then they came into our room to chat, while the losers smashed up the room, and the cops DID NOTHING!!! Man, if I were a cop, they would be evicted, led out of town, after spending the night in the tank, and charged with everything from dirty license plates to cracked windshield, every damn thing I could find. The cops are real tough walking around the bar in 4's, sticking out their chest for the 19 yr old girls, but get 2 of them alone in a room full of pot, and they either do nothing, or share. I hate politicians, and worse I hate cops that listen to politicians.

Re: weakasses
Don't be too quick to pass judgement (this applies to Canada).
- were there any drugs visible to the police when they got there, police can't just enter and SEARCH without grounds, especially in a "residence" (motel room).
- if they smashed up the room it would be up to the motel owner to make the complaint before the police could lay charges.
- police don't have the right to evict someone and lead them out of town, let alone putting them in the tank for the night. (the police would end up being charged).
- when someone is in a motel room they can't be charged with a traffic offence, the car would have to be on a road and have a driver.
- implying that they would SHARE the pot is ridiculous.
- as far as going into bars in 4's and acting tough for the 19yr old girls. Would you go into a bar dressed in a uniform by yourself and act like a wimp....not likely because you would end up with a beer bottle in the back of the head.
- you say you hate politicians, no one really likes most of them but what's the other option.....dictatorship?
- yes in many cases the police do have to follow what the politicians say (politicans make the laws), so you hate the police for doing their job?
- there is a real misconception that the police can do whatever they want, they can't.
- these same pot sharing, do nothing, wimp cops are the same ones that will risk their lives to save yours!
- I realize that you were just venting,

Whoah! This isn't the typical snowmobile web site discussion!
Let me jump right in.
Face the facts the drug war is a joke. I don't use drugs but I'm sick and tired of the money and violence associated with "the war on drugs" Ever heard of a little thing called Prohibition? That little war on drugs (booze) gave birth to organized crime networks that remain today. The war has done nothing but drive the profits so high that criminals in backwaters like Columbia and Peru make Bill Gates look like a poor relation. Ask yourself this, when was the last time you saw a bunch of gangbangers warring for the local beer franchise? When was the last time on the local news you saw the cops arresting some guy selling wine at a school? When was the last time you heard of the head of Miller Brewing or Molson putting a contract on the live of a goverment offical? Once you legalize the product the price drops and so does the motivation sell (and possibly buy) the product. The public will get a safer product and the criminals get hit where it hurts the most the wallets. What about the addicts you say? What about the alcholics? You don't wear your seatbelts, you don't wear a helmet and get hurt, your fault. You have a drinking problem, get control of yourself same thing with a drug problem. Let people take responsibility for their own lives, make their own decisions and quit wasting resources on a futal cause.
I'll put my soapbox back now.
