holic,i have to say,i have owned 80 340 enticer,91 phazer,94 vmax600le and a 97vmax xt. this sx feels lighter than the xt by far out handles them all.it is the best damn trail sled i ever owned,i can ditchbang, pin corners, haul the mail,or just plain cruise with it.the sx may not be the fastest sled but, i would put it up again anything in a point a to point b trail race anyday, its manners in the tight trails is awsome point and shoot.i will not remove this sled from my stable.i wish i could find a 99 in real nice shape for a good price locally i would by it hands down.

I always loved the 99, still the low suspension and the SWEET blue

i like my '01 sxr a lot too, but there was something special about that 97, i think i liked it a little more, and it was so much faster than this '01 once i got it set up. I think i may be finding this taller suspension (especially when set tall and stiff) really limits top end speed. When i soften it up and lower it down, top speeds go up A LOT, but then it rides like a charriot. Hated the headlight on that '97 though. Put a high wattage bulb in there, and then it would dim like crazy whenever you hit the brakes.

An inexpensive fix for the dimming headlight on the low voltage Yammies is to get a LED 1157 for your taillight. I put them in my 97 and 98 and the headlight no longer dims on braking at all. You can get them at Walmart for around $6.

Redmater, I have a 97 also and I feel the same way about it. It still rails very good but comes up a little shy in comparison to the viper. I hate the headlight on the sled also, but I'm just glad it has one....lol.

You guys are right about those SX sleds, especially the triples. I'm gonna miss my 00 SX700r even though I'm stepping into an 07 Attak GT. I have to say the KYB shocks on my Sxr have held-up awesome over the years, and never needed any parts when being rebuilt.
As far as the new suspensions, I'm more worried about the electric Ohlins in the back causing me trouble than I am about the GYT's in the front. The reports on TY of the Ohlins rear blowing out and breaking the wire have me concerned.

I've heard they have a fix kit for the wire and the 07' will be heavier duty?
