Today I was in Eagle River filling up my truck's gas tank. All of the sudden, these 2 people on Venture 600s pull up.
I could tell they were rentals, because both of them had ski jackets and pants on and were wearing cotten mittens.
Im leaning aganst my truck, waiting for the pump to click off, and Im trying not to laugh at the conversation Im hearing. "Hey, what kinda gas do I put in this thing?", the lady says. "How the F would I know!", he husband says. Then, she looks at me and says, "Hey, what kinda gas do I put in this thing???" I smile and say, "87 will do just fine!"
Then the guy says to me, "Hey, where's the gas cap at on this thing???" I point and say, "right there under the handlebars".
They fill up their sleds and the lady looks at me and says, "My hands are really cold!" I kinda laugh and say, "Well, if you got some real gloves it would help and you might need to turn your handwarmers on." She kinda looks at me like Im from China and says, "handwarmers???" Im like, "Yeah, you see these 2 little dials, one is the handwarmer and the other is the thumbwarmer." So, she walks over to the sled and turns the dials all the way up. Since the sled isnt running, of course they dont work. I explain to her that the engine must be running for them to work.
So anyways, and she explains to him that these machines have heated grips and her husband is like, "really??? Wow! thats kinda cool."
I hope I told them right about the octane. I didnt think the Venture, especially a 600 would be a high-compression engine that would need high-zoot gas. Also, that lady was one really ditzy blonde. :o| She was kinda cute though, so I didnt mind too much! ;)! She'd be the type who would be good to keep around as long as she didnt talk too much!
Ah well, thats skiers for ya!

You just got two newbies hooked onto sledding.LOL
87 is OK for those sleds.
Hell I hope you didn't set the warmers on High they'll be burning there hands off.LOL

SPORS. You would think the place that they rented them from would have gone over that with them. :o| Later, Sxrlar.

I agree with Sxrlar why would'nt the one renting these people sleds at least try to find out what kind of sledding background,if any, they had? What if a belt blew apart or they got stuck?
It does'nt sound like the guy had any clue as to how to take care of even a minor thing like even changing a spark plug.

All that aside it really is kinda funny though, snicker.

I was up in Alanson filling up my sled about a month ago and a guy on a 570 cat was having some trouble as well. He went to pull away from the pump and of course the sled kept going straight on the pavement. He stopped about 5 feet from rearending a car and then came over to me to ask where the reverse switch was. It was a standard 570 with out elect. start or reverse. He just purchased it earlier that day.
I think the dealer should have at least covered some basics with the dude.

Well, a lot of dealers have the attitude of once the sled leaves the lot its not their problem anymore.
Ive bought many sleds and I can remember only once that the dealer actually went through all the controls and features with me.

i think any real good dealer should take the time to go through the basic know-how of operation and controls of the sled. Not everyone gets a new sled every year. Thats the reason a lot of people dont get into the sport (not that i am complaining), but they are scared of not knowing how to operate them.

Just remember, mechanically inclined or not, we have all seen the day where we didn't know a single thing about sleds. Of course for some of us it may have been at very early age. I do hope that their experience was a good one. Even if they never ride again, it is a very good thing to have non-sledders gain at least a little respect for the sport.
