97 Venture Disc Brake Play on Jack Shaft

I just picked up a 97 Venture 600 Twin with reverse and I've noticed that I can move the disc about 3/4" back and forth without the jackshaft turning. Side to side play seems fine. Is this normal? I would expect the disc to be tight on the jackshaft but I'm not sure...Any insight is appreciated.

Common problem with the keyway is worn and now the hub and shaft will show wear as well. Just replacing the keyway and hub will help to get it better.but it will still have some play.

Thanks Bluewho. It looks like I have to open up the chain case and pull the sprockets to get at that keyway correct?
