Viper 700's blow up at 2000 miles?

Dealer told me the Yamaha rep back in the day told them to do an upper rebuild on the 700 2 stroke Vipers at 2000 miles as they had a weak spot and it would take the lower end out as well. Any of you heard of this? Mine has 1800 miles and runs fine

The mid-range spark runs hot on the viper, this becomes a problem for the mid throttle cruisers, which I am not, I never had a problem. Don (mrviper700) has a thread on this, and i believe his advice is to raise the needles, thus enriching the mid-range.

3800 on mine and no issues so far. I'm also not a trail rider that is in the mid-range a lot, and therefore haven't raised my needles.

I snow checked a new 02 viper and in the fall of 04 I bought a new sled and sold the viper with just shy of 8000 miles and the engine was never apart the only problem i had was a cracked y pipe

Yes I did raise needles. Optical headgaskets and rear coolers. Reringed 10000 mi one at about 7000 if I remember right and every part was well within spec. May rering 7000 mile one this summer.

Rear heat exchanger. The 04 came stock with them but the 02-03 did not. The SRX rear heat exchangers will also work.
