Woodruff key

So i was instantly my new stator on my srx and the magneto wasnt lining up with the groove on the crank. So i took it off and in doing so the woodruff key also came off. So i ordered a new one. Well i thought it was supposed to fii snug in the groove. I lloked in thr repair manual and it doesn't say much about it. Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks

they fit snug into crankshaft but the groove in flywheel has a bit of clearance to allow you to slide it on without pulling key from crank,
