Yamaha Exciter 570 1988 restoration

Nice pics.It was a time when skidplates,bright colors,and long travel were all the rage.Yamahas were Uber light,Polaris was pushing an old but effect chassis,Arctic cat had AWS but late to the long travel game,and Skidoo was beginning to crawl out of the lead sled wilderness :brr
 
Our annual "Tulppiosafari" was last weekend and it was as always, pure fun! Nearly 370 kilometers and three days with friends.
This year´s lineup was amazing, especially Ski-Doo Mach Z was totally cool! That sled was totally restored, even every bolt and etc. was yellow passivated.

My Exciter had minor problems, the pull starter exploded on the second day and had to rely on 440 XCR. Until that incident, Exciter did very well and was pleasure to drive.

Still going strong. Got new OEM stickers and new electric start and brand new fresh air kit and Totaltek pipe (Only in Finland). These modifications caused carburetor adjustments. Starting with 330 main jets. All these mods are made to respect original options.
Here in Finland these sleds are the Vintage ones :D

Really nice restoration! Impressive vintage trip you did there too! What track are you running? Awesome project, keep posting updates.
 
First test drive for this year. New pipe and freshair kit and put 330 main jets. Have to make little adjustments for idle speed, otherwise it seems to run really nice. Also installing electric start IF the pull starter fails again :D

Lol, yep, I have always wondered as well.
We have a guy in our local club that wears one like that too, but even louder, lol.
 
Back to the future. Sidewinder vs. Exciter. Not so serious comparison but still :mrgreen:
Both are legends of their time.
