Clutching 101

Okay I see what your saying about preload now born yamaha. I need to keep the total force about the same in order to keep my rpms on shift out from getting to far out of whack and need to up my primary preload in order to get my engagement up. I'm just thinking that 4200 would be optimal engagement
 

You could try the blue green blue as well if you are not trying to go up too far. Order them both to experiment. Springs are cheap and easy to change. Need long cover too of course.

Would a cover off a let's say 98 or newer clutch work?
 
The Max Perf. catolog on here says tall spring on the "99" and newer sleds. We have a 1998 xtc 500 with no low rpm power so I had to go to the tall cover to get the spring rates I wanted. I went down the same road you are with a different sled.
