Greetings
So .. finally got the replacement needle/seat assemblies. Swapped over the screens and installed them. I have had the carbs off this thing so many times, I can now do it with my eyes close.
While I was waiting for the parts, I tore into the bearing issue.
I turns out the lower chain case bearing grenaded. All that was left was the outer race still in place, the inner race on the drive shaft, and a few assorted pieces of the bearing cage.
The rest of the bearing cage and all the balls were MIA. No idea where they ended up.
The shaft was obviously not contained, so it promptly ground out most of the retaining clip.
It looks like it avoided actually grinding the chain case itself, so I might have gotten lucky there, but try as I might, I am unable to remove what is left to the clip.
Fortunately, I had the original standard chaincase, so I re-installed it with out much hassle.
Been out enjoying the fresh snow that most of us have been getting, with no issues so far.
Engine is running great, drive is behaving.
Looks like I might be out of the woods for now.
Going to replace all the bearings this summer. They are almost 20 years old after all.
Thanks again
Happy sledding.
