He turns 12 and gets his permit this fall

Yeah, it should have way better mpg. Can't believe how well the seat cover has kept over all these years. She is ready for sure. As for pistons, you can probably get another year or two out of them before it's time to replace. Keep us updated on the process, clutching twins is what I've been looking into for the past two seasons. That sled should be plenty fast for a 9 year old. Check the track for rot. I see it still has the steel skis, a set of plastic ones will make it a whole lot more enjoyable to ride. What's that box on pic 1, and there is a metal thing also sticking to the right?

Either way, this 99 should be quicker than the 94 vmax 500 I had, especially with a bolt on helix. It should be better on gas with that helix.

She looks so darn excited sitting on that beautiful sled 😃
Also the gearing will help the mpg

I have a set of USI skis coming. I have had a USI mount kit for the past 6 years sitting on the shelf.. I have a set of Bergstrom 8 inch triple points for those skis with shim an ski savers on the way. The track does have some pulled studs on the edges which I'm not too happy about.

I'm looking for a good 1 inch 121 track. I'm going to do 144 down the middle and put a helix on it. This sled should be an absolute rocket!

The metal thing on the throttle is part of an easy throttle that "was" once installed on it. But hey the Yamaha Vmax cover came with it and is in perfect condition

Lol this is turning into a sweet project real fast.

I just found this skid plate I ordered for the Vmax. Comes with mounting hardware.

What year Vmax twins had the oil pump failure where it goes into wide open mode?

I remember a guy on a TY Munising ride went through 2 gallons of oil that weekend on a TY ride. I think his was a 1998 black XTC 600 twin.

I think both 1997 and 1998? The oilpump on my venture and sx still work. They might have updated pumps though. Is that skid plate full length?

Also, a tempaflow is worth the money in my opinion, and an actual rear heat exchanger instead of that crosstube. Better performance and more consistent performance.

I'm going to pass on the tempa blow.

The 94 v max 500 I had ran "ok" It was heavy and hard on fuel mpg.

My main ride is my FX Nytro. I have everything done to it I wanted. 😌 I'll enjoy this vmax as a summer and fall project.

I Have a 47/41 helix on the shelf. New, never used. It's from Hauck. I wonder if I can try it.

I do have a green marked 2ndary spring.

What should I do? The red marked spring is pretty soft.

For the srx rear heat exchanger, you will need some hose adapters, because the diameter of the sx hoses are 19 mm or 0,75 inch and the srx ones are 1 inch or 25 mm. As for the secondary spring, use the green one with the 47/41 helix, seems kind of steep, but again, your weights are really light.

Yes, they seem just fine.

Going to go with them for now. I'm sure there are other long travel front shock options out there and I'm pretty sure these ride better than the pogo stick fronts on the 94 vmax 500 I had.

when i put the srx cooler into the back of my 01 sx500r, we basically put the srx hoses over top of the running board cooler pipes with the sxr hoses cut about an 1" above the running board coolers. made big difference in the temps from one board to the other. some one is still running that sled about 1.5 hrs from me ice fishing as it was made into a 136" track sled by my brother.

USI skis came in. Bergstrom triple points should be here this week.

Since I already had the Yamaha USI mount kit sitting on the shelf in my garage collecting dust for several years I figured I couldn't go wrong with a set of USI skis to replace the heavy Steel skis this sled came with.

The triple points were $150 I think.

Mrsled, holy crap, it's not difficult at all to end up with $500 invested in just a set of skis. Holy 😲
