1988 Yamaha Phazer Bog

bought this phazer earlier this year in march, didn't get to ride it until December. starts and idles good runs good up to about 50 mph then it will not go any faster. with the track off the ground it will spin it up to 90mph. TORS is bypassed correctly the rubber plugs in the carbs are in the correct spot (left and center holes when the carb is upside down airbox side facing you.) does not have an airbox or pod filters, could that be the problem? what else could be the problem? this is ,y first phazer and I don't know much about them any help would be appreciated. thank you!!

Could be warn clutching parts and yes it could be not having the air box on it. Check to be sure the choke is not hanging up.

those sleds do weird stuff when the air box is removed.

Agree with maim and Mrsled, get an airbox on it. The carbs are calibrated with the airbox in place and it's almost impossible to correctly recalibrate unless you're an engineer that works for Mikuni.
After that, go through the clutches.
