98/99 srx bottom end with 01 top end?

Hey guys, my bottom end on my 2001 SRX700 locked up from exposure to water (previous owner let it sit outside for a week and got rain water in it because the top end was removed). It seems that rebuilding it will be very expensive, so I was able to find a local guy with a 99 complete bottom end. Will that work without issue with my 2001 jugs and other parts? I'm not sure what else would be conflicting from different year bottom ends?
 
This issue you will run into is using a 1998/99 SRX stator and flywheel. The older parts will not be compatible with the CDI, ignition coils and wiring harness on your 2001 sled and the older cases will not accept the newer stator without modifications. You would be better off either finding a bottom end off a 2001 and up SRX or a 2002 and up SX 700 Viper.
Some people have modified the early model SRX cases to accept the 2001 and up stators...a search may help you out there.

Won't the stator and flywheel from the 01 bolt onto the 99 bottom end?

So a newer Viper 700 bottom end will work??
 
From my 2000 Yamaha technical update book - "The cases are lighter due to aluminum bearing inserts instead of cast iron. The number one and three big end rods pins are welded. The PTO bearing is one piece bearing, compared to 98-99 had two bearings. Interchangability : no"

However, I would think if the stator mounts and pickup coil mount location is the same you should be able to use the 99 case and crankshaft.

I suppose my best bet would be just to bring my bottom end with and compare them

Yes...The SX Viper's cases, stator, and flywheel are the same as the 2000 and up SRXs. The Viper had a lighter "Pork Chop" style crankshaft but they are interchangeable with the SRX.
The 2000 and up SRX went to the Twin Headlight and that's when the cases and stator/flywheel changed as well.
 
The stator will bolt right on as that location has not changed over the years, but the pickup coil mount has. The '00-'02 SRX uses a smaller lighter flywheel the '98/'99, and while you can have some material welded into the bottom case where the PU coil bosses are so new holes can be drilled and tapped,it is easier to get a flywheel from a '02 and up SX-R,dual headlight style. The magnets are in the correct location to work with the SRX pickup coil.

That's a way easier solution.
