One thing to check is that the rear pivot arm has not flipped past center. Happens when the rear limiter strap is extended too much. The springs and shocks are often bagged on the SS440. There is not a lot of travel regardless and they take one hell of a pounding on the trails. Some people upgrade to a skid from a Phazer I (116”) to keep the stock track or a Phazer II (121”) but your rear suspension options are pretty limited because of the leafer front suspension. One upgrade I found helpful on mine was to replace the two side springs on the front of the rear skid with the heavier duty ones from the 82 SRV or 81 SRX. A 121” skid gives you more options for track lug height. I am running a 121” skid out of an 83 SRV one of mine but they are much harder to find or get parts for than a Phazer skid.
