Racing a Poo

well guess I will have to wait till next weekend up at the cabin. Scott blew the track out on the Polaris while getting it ready for our ride. Lucky for him!
 
OK last try. I broke down and asked him model because the FI with pipes just didnt sound right. '92 650 Indy SKS. I love Yami- while he was wrenching yesterday I was riding with the 'hood Yamaha possee (posse, posee, posee, possey???). Funny how many neighbors you meet when it snows a bunch!
 
I do know from personnel experience if he knows what he is doing than that sled can run...and run well. But if he is running stock with clutching, you should have a good day of razzing your buddy. Now if you notice pipes, non stock looking heads, with proper clutching it could be a challenge.
Maybe he's tossing you bait and knows that he has a real sleeper with a big bore and porting. Hell if he lucked out and found one with a PSI genesis motor, 800cc and 190-200+hp, hold your head high and except defeat. Or loosen two of his plugs to the last couple of threads and kick his a**.

Any well set up stock SRX can fly. The secret is hidden in suspension tuning.

No matter what you own if it's broke you still have to fix it. I have owned all brands and have noticed one thing, if you ride/favour only one brand than that one is best in your eyes. Every company is known for certain things.
At one time Arctic Cat had the power, handling, too rich from the factory and bad fuel economy, Polaris was extra light triples (XLT), oval race kings and great corner to corner, Skidon't has snow cross, super light and efficient sleds, Yammy was and still is very reliable, sneaky fast triples and amazing fit and finish.
 
Don't forget the importance of clutching. Alot of people dump alot of money into the motor and never adjust the clutch. You can miss out on alot of available power. a sled with 100 hp clutched right will smoke a 120hp without proper clutching.
 
Definitely, proper clutching is one of the best things to do to a sled. Larry Rugland (race motor builder) had a stock 90 340 sport clutched and geared do 100mph on radar. He always says any sled that is clutched right is a fast sled.

Anyways, here is the story to the best of my memory. He told me that Vmax-4s werent that great. He said that they were pretty fast off the line, but that they didnt have much top-end. He said that if he raced one with his RXL that he would lose in a 660' race but if they ran 1000' he would win.
I still dont think that an RXL, even a modded one has a chance aganst an SRX. The guy on the SRX could probably be to the other side of the lake at the nearest bar with 2 or 3 drinks pounded back and have the phone numbers of 5 women before the guy on the RXL caught up.

110 rxl....150 vmax4.. both stock..lol. the vmax4 are topend demons.the vmax4 could be running in a foot of snow and the rxl on hard pack and still beat it..lol :nos:

Yeah - almost 4 years !!!

The sleds are probably in the junkyard by now LOL .... well at least the Polaris-

Yeah, there have been a few VERY modded rxl's/ indy 650's that are just waiting to take on anyone that thinks they stand a chance because their sled is 15 years newer. I would find out what besides the pipes has been done. If you see PSI all over the motor and no polaris stamps, I would not put any $$ on the race. I am sure there have been a few thundercat/ machz, Apex/ SRX owners that thought they could hang with that " piped vmax 4 from 92" down the lake.

It's all a matter of persective, and what the reality is. There is only one way to find out....
 
2006 on a 1000ft strip at a local RADAR RUN my 84 VMAX " beat two indy 650 " by 2mph! Then came along a 500 polar-pig centurion mod with pipes! It was all bark and NO BITE! It's GREAT when you take a 24 year old Stock sled and still handle the new iron!

Ha Ha! That Polaris broke in 5 different ways that weekend. It was leaking before it even came off the trailer. Shredded a belt, fouled plugs and broke the skid, all in one day. That guy is now riding around on the '79 exciter I traded him for a brand new pressure washer (with a Japanese motor). Both are still running strong. When it did run, the SKS was no match for the SRX across the lake.
