03 sx Viper clutching/k+n pods

Not sure if I'm asking this in the right location, looking for some pointers on clutching for the old triple, the previous owner of the sled told me the belt was brand new, im smelling the belt a little when I'm taking off.. with the ass end of the machine up on a stand the track is rolling without any throttle which would tell me that the secondary spring is weak, or the primary is coming into to soon. I ordered a green spring for it and it should be arriving tomorrow, any other pointers on helping this old girl get out of her own way? It's got 4500 miles on it engine sounds fine, I would like to ditch the air box and do some k+n pods but I'm not really seeing any options or feedback on that topic.. also how do the v force reeds respond in this engine? Worth the $300?

Here's my .02c

DO NOT eliminate the stock airbox and install individual filters on these Yamaha 2 stroke triples!
There is very little hp, if any, to be had with pod filters and you will create a poorly running sled that is a jetting nightmare.
You don't need Vforce reeds as the stock ones work well but they are good if you choose to use them. I always liked carbon fiber reeds on the stock cages.
Also don't install an aftermarket exhaust silencer unless you want to shed some weight as there is no power gain to be had .

Many of us have been down all the roads on the triples many years ago.

The first thing to do would be veify that it has the correct belt and the center to center is correct. Sounds like the belt is too tight. Could need to move some secondary washers if the secondary has the belt riding too high making the belt want to engage at the primary. Also make sure that everything in the primary is moving properly so the sheave can get to the fully open position. While you are at it you could check the alignment as well.

There are days worth of reading here on great clutch setups. Listen to Mrviper700. The heelclicker setups are the best in my opinion but there are good lower cost options as well. No setup will be perfectly dialed in on your sled. All sleds react a little differently but they will get you close enough to add or subtract a little weight or make other small changes and the sled will be incredibly quicker than stock.

Thanks for the input, the jaws can definitely helped.. it's much less lazy. Or maybe it just sounds better. Still looking at k+n pods. What's the OD of the intake side of the carb?

I have never seen a forum with such a wealth of information given so freely by people that are so knowledgable anywhere else. It is such a shame that it is not as popular as it once was. I guess it has followed that path of Yamaha unfortunatly.
