Q about my first snowmobile

I just bought a 2012 Venture 2-up (RST90BS). I've never had a snowmobile before so I have a lot to familiarize myself with.
There are some things about this sled that are different from my expectations...things I've seen on other sleds that I assumed were standard items. Are these typical of newer machines, maybe typical of Yamaha in particular?

--No pull rope. It's electric start only. I think I'm going to put a new battery in this every 3-4 years even if it tests perfect. The idea of getting stranded in the woods has zero appeal to me.

--No safety lanyard. I guess if I fall off it'll idle down and the clutch will disengage. Still ..

--No fuel shutoff. There's a warning on the owner's manual that advises to transport the sled with an empty fuel tank due to the possibility of gas flowing thru the carbs into the cylinders and hydrolocking. Well isn't that thoughtful. Now I have to carry gas cans even for short rides bc Yamaha couldn't put a petcock on the fuel line?

Welcome to TY.This is the two-stroke side:2strokes: of TY(Pre four-stroke Yamahas:4STroke: )so you would get more model specific info on the thumper(4stroke)side.As for your question 1 No pull rope... been riding yamaha fourstroke sleds for 20 years(90% backcountry miles:ORC) not once had an issue starting it.Few times of many cranks but it always did so on the E start(Batteries cam last 10 years if properly maintained) .No safety lanyard....pretty easy to install an aftermarket tether on these sleds. The TY fourstroke side has more info regarding DIY;)!..No fuel shutoff... big issue trailering most sleds but these yamahas in my experience trailering never had a issue(but i filled them up to 3/4 of a tank, never to the brim).Under the hood there are lots of places to install a shutoff.Ty thumper side has lots of ideas:rocks:.

Couple things . someone will suggest you also sign up in the 4stroke part of
this web site.
They seem to use the same TORS in the carbs to stop run aways..
On my VK it is wired through a switch in grip and to the CDI.. No pressure on
switch , won't rev up..
Looked at the parts cat on this sled and they draw from near top of tank and 1/2
way down.
and each carb shows a diaphragm ? Most sled I saw result of empty fuel tanks
by way of crank and exhaust pipe had fuel pickup in the bottom of tank
and were left on trailer with hitch in the dirt.
This beast also shows two fuel inputs from tank .. need two valves.?
Carry a booster pack ? ride with friends and cables?
Got the impression you would need to be the hulk to pull one over similar
to ATV's and street bike with large displacements .
Enjoy the sled.

edit ,, I new someone would reply and di while I was typing .lol

This forum is split and you need to sign up separately to see 2S & 4S content? That's a first for me...

I guess I'll back out & see how to sign up for the side that's relevant to me. I have 2 & 4 stroke toys but all my Yammis are 4S.
(Unless you count one Mariner outboard that was made by Yamaha)

Thank you both for the insights.

I don't have any 4 stroke Yam but also signed into the site as
lots of VK540 are owned by 4 stroke guys as work sleds and
many common issues to Current Viking sleds.
I changed my "name " slightly but apparently didn't need to.
